I only have 1700 miles and my steering wheel looks like it's been on the car for over a year. I find it silly that the steering wheel is so sensative

Hand Lotion will do this to steering wheels also. We see this a lot at the dealership where I work.

Man, I guess I should sell my spare wheel. I didn't know this was an issue.
Just curious where do you guys live (hot climates/humid/dry)? Do you garage your cars? |

I'll be "that guy".
![]() Obviously where I live summers are only time there's real heat here. That said my car "pre" frs was less then year old and developed a flaking wheel same as shown here. I considered it good leather and also don't have a firm grip really when driving. Ford denied the claim as well same as folks here speaking of....Anyhow I started putting in a heat shield, ie: windshield heat cover inside when leaving ca run attended for long periods in sun this solved it and was my problem, the replacement wheel lasted 7 more years and looked like brand new when sold car. Not saying this is it with the wheel that comes in this car however judging by people and their locations complaining about this if you're not running something to keep the direct sun and heat off it....could be?

No peeling steering wheel and I park my car outside facing the sun. 42k miles and 2 year old BRZ. Summers get over 100F here, winters below 0F.

Mine isn't as bad as this. But I too have a bit of a minor peel. I had suspected the same mechanic at the dealership that got grease in the red threads was the same person that did the knick. I'll live with it for now, maybe get it replaced in the future.

mine hits my knife clip on my right front pocket when I get out of the car. I suspect many of you hit your steering wheels when getting in/out. Maybe?
