The only people stupid enough to pay that kind of markup are those with disposable income and don't give a $#!T, who just want the latest and greatest. There are people out there and we've dealt with them at my dealership: a woman went through an R8, TT roadster, Camaro convertible, and a Mini cooper, each traded with less than 2k miles. They get screwed on trade-in because they're basically buying a new car, letting it take it's biggest depreciation by driving it off the lot, and then turning it in after less than a year. Absolutely insane, but thankfully these people are few and far between.

Like everyone else said: a penny over MSRP? Walk away. Wait as long as it takes. The dealer will see that no one is willing to pay that money and drop the price. These aren't rare enough where they have that kind of leverage, and it won't take them long to see it.

Who, whoa, whoaa man, take a breather over there. :happy0180:

It's almost been about to be a year for my ownership of the legacy and knew fully well that I was intentionally going to be trading it away after I got it, but even right now I actually have takers who want my car too. I know I was going to lose on depreciation but not by that much imo. It was the gamble I wanted to take and it looks like to me it will pay off.

You bought a pre-owned Legacy, correct? (2009 according to your profile)

I'm talking about brand new cars that depreciate ~30% the moment they drive off the lot. Not the same as buying pre-owned. And doing it once is one thing; I'm talking about people who do it habitually.

I don't think he was over-extending his opinion at all. Especially since he's in the industry. Growing up I was always taught to keep a car for a respectable season of use in order to get value, and buying newish pre-owned was best. I grew up in a wealthy family (though I have none, hehe) and my parents would call this kind of car purchasing frivolous and irresponsible.

Who gets bored with an R8 within a year?

Yeah I knew what you were talking about. Just seeing what you would think in my case. But would you have changed your pov if I had gone for the 11 Legacy. Just saying.

True I don't how anyone could get bored of an R8 and yeah I got the point of his post, I was just busting his chops a little bit. Nothing serious.

And then gets a TT, and a Camaro, and a Mini after it?! I know, right? That person has issues. I talked to a guy last week looking to trade in a 2012 Chevy Avalanche with 5k miles for an Audi A5 cabriolet. He just bought a Scion iQ a month prior; I think he said he goes through 2-3 cars per year. Nutcase!

Dear XXX,
This is XXX from XXXX. The MSRP of the Premium in 6-speed manual with no other options on the vehicle at all is $26,265. Because of it's limited availability and the fact that so many are already being pre-ordered and we are only getting an allotment of 20 for the year we are charging a non-negotiable mark up of $5,000 on every BRZ that we are getting.
So your selling price would be $31,265.
Feel free to contact me through email, the store phone, or even by my cell, which you can also text me on. Whichever is more convenient for you. Looking forward to hearing from you soon! Have a great day!
Thanks,
XXX
I think this is just a pre-order sales ploy to get as much money as they can out of the suckers who want the first fr-s/brz's, and sadly, people do fall for it. I remember when the Camaro came out, I went to both the local dealers in my city and they both asked for 10k on top of the msrp of a Camaro SS(seriously? I could buy a base corvette for that much and be better off), but they'd sell me the LS as msrp. I laughed and left both dealers and promptly stopped even thinking about getting a camaro. Now a few years later friends of mine are picking them up for under msrp.

Just negotiate to a price that you're happy with, if not just wait a little while till you get more money or a better deal.
