I think it's due to consumer protection laws but dealers are not allowed to sell for more than MSRP here.

But they don't have to sell the car for more, they just have to add money for other things.

Unless there's a law preventing every possible loophole they'll be able to ask whatever they want in the end.

Solution is simple though. Don't buy it at stupid prices.

I would be willing to pay $6k over MSRP. I think that is a fair price.

Someone mentioned in another thread that with wait-list/pre-orders what they do is allow people to pay for places in line, since they can't artificially jack up the price.

So if you were 10th of the only 10 cars and someone comes to the dealer and offers him $5k for a spot, you're SOL until the next batch comes in.

No law can defeat un-scrupulous dealers...

I might pay 5k over msrp... if it came with a factory warrantied supercharger and a re-tune.

The dealerships aren't screwing anybody over...the asshole that agrees to pay the markup is the problem.

If they don't sell at $5k markup, they'll simply lower it. You don't really think they will let the car sit unsold for weeks let alone months do you?

And if one dealer is doing the markup, you can bet the others will too when they have only 1 available. I don't care what any salesman on this forum claims his boss told him, when the car actually arrives you'll see plenty of past words/claims that became untrue.

I wish I could say I haven't seen dealerships sit on cars for months on end with a big juicy market price adjustment stuck next to the Monroney, but I have several times.

Hell, when I was looking into a Boss302, the dealership I was talking to refused to even consider making a compromise on their MPA to make the sale that day, in hopes some idiot would eventually show up. They turned down a potential sale due to greed. Ironically, it did take several months before they moved that one car....and I continue to bad mouth that dealer and dissuade friends from buying there.

It obviously takes two to dance. I guess I just don't subscribe to the school of war-path short-term gains at the expense of long-term failure.

fuck them!
we should do a boycott, don't buy it until 3 months later. They know that there already gonna sell cars off the lot as soon as they come in bc of preorders. the more sitting brz on the lots, the better it is for everyone

I seriously just wonder who actually agrees to this stuff. All they are doing is reinforcing that it is okay for them to do.

This car isn't a limited production, you watch that price go down in 2013 for sure, don't be fooled by this dealer and start looking around, you will find a better deals for sure, i think the MSRP is already overpriced, personally i am buying it a second hand, so i don't have the feeling of being robbed by a person who doesn't know about the car he is selling.

Sounds like we should add this dealer to the blacklist!

And add to insult by sending him the e-mail that his dealership is on a community blacklist.
