I still don't understand the hostility?

Is it a confirmed fix to wait until ~20k miles and the crickets go away? And if so, is everyone that is around or past that mileage cricketless? Because I'm not going to wait in hopes that it'll disappear.

Mine disappeared entirely at 10k, every time I think I hear them and ask for a second opinion people think I'm crazy, they're definitely gone for me, I'm at 27k.

We're not the only two.

Edit: for clarity all 91 E10, zero additives or things done to reduce the noise other than a lead foot.

I'm at 13000, 2nd HPFP and mine are there with everything but ethanol free fuel.

I've got just over 20K on the original HPFP and still get the crickets. They disappeared most of the winter but are back now for the summer, they may be marginally quieter than in the past though.

I think it's a complicated issue. A combination of fuel formulation with weather. From my contacts in Acura, Louisiana has had more complaints about their HPFP crickets than other places around the country.

Mine were around winter, spring, and as of tomorrow, summer. Even if they were only around in summer, I believe it would still be troublesome.

That's good to hear, and is great for you, but it seems that isn't the case 100% of the time. If the crickets would go away around 20k miles guaranteed, I'd just wait, but there is no such guarantee.

I'm not really sure what to do at this point. I know getting you to replace the HPFP isn't going to do a damn thing except give me a temporary break from the chirping, but at least at that point I can call Subaru of America and say "Okay, I did what you recommended and it didn't fix the problem, now what?" Not exactly where that'll get me, though.

Better success rate than replacing pumps, not significantly worse than additives or hunting out E0.

800miles, noticed the chirping yesterday and now it's constant at idle.

I just notice a new noise and was wondering if anyone else has heard it as well, at 70 mph there is a singing noise and I'm hoping it is but it sounds like it's coming from the hpfp. It only does it under light throttle. When you let off or give wot it goes away. I can just barely hear crickets at idle and really is not bad. It gets louder at 80 and higher. If it's not the hpfp I might really be sol.

Don't worry, Prog, I think Hunter's more annoyed at us than the crickets. Ethanol-free if you can find it. Zero crickets while waiting for a real fix.

From a fatigue standpoint, whether it's the Tacoma Narrows bridge or a squeaky fuel pump, flutter is NOT normal. Waiting for the pump to quiet down is basically waiting for the offending components to "break in" - hopefully before they break.

I've noticed a resonance at 70-80, like the wind whistling over the mirrors but it goes away when I go faster, it doesn't get louder. So I'm not sure what you've got going on, might be the same, might not.

None, to my knowledge. I would be interested in looking at the pressure regulator and the check valve from a really loud example under a lupe.

It may never fail but it's early in the race.

I'm more curious than anxious about it but these kinds of things are my bread & butter.
