With the warmer weather, they woke up a bit but just a mild case. Got 2.5oz of Lucas upper cylinder... in the tank and presto. Gone. I also notice lately that 91 oct, althought OK, is not the designed 93oct (read it in the manual if I recall correctly) and you hear clearly quite often some pinging when you accelerate, or even when blipping the gaz pedal. I just filled my tank of Petro-Canada 94 E10. The crickets came back as loud as I ever heard them. Since it was all part of a calculated plan I had a quart of Lucas Semi-synthetic 2-cycle motorcycle oil. Added 2 ounces to tank and the crickets went away completely. As for the pinging, the jury is still debating but I think it works better now. Time will tell and I will report on results afetr a few tanks and with warmer temperature.
Update 2

I thought I was in the clear but as temperature rose Petro Can 94 E10 plus 2-stroke Lucas OR Lucas UCL did not keep the engine completely cricket free. Maybe not a swarm of cricket can back but a handful. Now, I go to the trouble of mixing 94 E10 + 91 E0 half/half and I add 1 oz of 2-stoke Lucas. I get no crickets, reduced pinging due to 92.5 effective octane rating and a smoother idling engine. My next step would be I think a Tune but that means investing in a new ECU gizmo which I think is pretty expensive.

Pretty much the best solution. My supercharger should muffle the crickets now, lol.

In less than a few days after I got my fuel pump replaced by Toyota per the TSB, it chirps again.

I don't see much of an issue with the high pressure pump. All direction injection vehicles high pressure pumps are noisy. The only real issue with our cars is that the engineers decided/forgot to insulate it to reduce and isolate these noises. If it really bothers you quit bitching and buy something else. Every car is going to be a balance of what you are willing to put up with and your enthusiasm for it. You can spend 15k on a Fiesta or 400k on a Rolls, both cars are going to have issues, all cars have issues over their life span no matter who makes it. The beauty of it is that you can buy any god damn car you want. Quit bitching if you are not going to anything to change what pisses you off. No one forced you to buy and or keep this vehicle.

This entire thread is about people trying to change what pisses them off? No one forced us to by these cars and not one of us knew they'd do this annoying chirping. No one gives a shit if you don't have a problem with the HPFP. If you don't like reading the "bitching" unsubscribe from the thread and Go Fu*k yourself. Try being constructive with your next comment doosh-bag.

And your post that rehashed everything that has been tried already, short of replacing the pump? Obviously constructive.

This thread stopped being constructive about 150 pages ago.

Congratulations on attacking someone's point of view with profanity, that is surely constructive and helping reach a solution. Really, you sound like a child. Grow up and act like an adult, it's easy to run your mouth behind the anonymity of the internet. I'm disappointed you didn't go the extra mile and kick it up a notch. I DISAGREE WITH YOU, YOUR MOTHER IS A WHORE, I HOPE THE GHOST OF HITLER SHITS IN YOUR MOUTH!
I am simply speaking from my 16 years of experience in the automotive field. Functionally the pump has no issue whatsoever, it is a noise perception issue. Don't get me wrong, it is loud at idle but it is doing exactly what it was designed to do. I bet if someone constructed a shroud with some insulation the noise would be significantly reduced or eliminated. Maybe the engineers at Subary/Toyota are working on something like this. But probably not since this is not an actual component failure.

This noise definitely is crazy annoying. I got my pump replaced and it came back almost immediately. I understand that there will be DI noise, by my GTI (with an upgraded high pressure fuel pump) doesn't make noise even close to as annoying as the BRZ does. In the VW all you hear is a ticking from the injectors, no terrible squeaking/chirping/crickets noises.

I can see the proud owner of McLaren P1 at a stop sign with a bad case of crickets. You think he would go home and act like it's normal. Come on people. Be logical. We paid good money for this car. Why are we still have this issue?

Lmao. I responded to profanity with profanity. Your point of view was attacking people that have and enjoy the car. Yes every car has issues, but not in my 30+years of paying attention to cars have l heard a single OEM vehicle that chirped like this one. It sounds broken and it's annoying. Why don't you take your 16 yrs of oil changing knowledge and fix the problem. Become everyone's hero. Instead of telling those that like all other aspects of their car to just get rid of it. Not a single person in this thread has said they wished the pump pumped better, only they wanna know how to fix the chirping. How was your comment constructive in any way?
