At least it was only coolant. Back in the 90s my dad took his Corvette in for service and popped the hood afterward to check over everything. He noticed that someone had written "Moblie 1" (sic) on the coolant reservoir. When he popped the top on it, there was oil floating in it.

I've had good luck with dealer service over the years, even if they did tend to charge too much for some of the work. The dealer where I bought my BRZ has a very small service department, and they seem competent. The mechanic is an older guy who has been around for a long time.

That seems like a neat idea, but I don't see how that could possibly get any debris or sludge out of the oil pan. And if you had metal shavings sticking to the plug indicating a potential issue, how would you ever know?

Besides that, I don't see why you should have to take the dipstick tube off. I pump out my oil samples to send to Blackstone via the dipstick tube using a smaller diameter tube. I don't see why you couldn't use a pump with a smaller tube to change the oil.

Removing the dipstick tube isn't necessary. You'd just use a smaller tube, which comes with the mityvac.

People have done oil changes using these pumps (AFAIK mercedes and BMW use similar tools at their dealerships for oil changes) for quite some time with no issues. YMMV and everyone will do what they feel most comfortable with.

I hope you realize though that the replaced lights will just condense again without fixes the dealer/mfr won't do? See the condensation thread for details.

I took mine in twice for "free" maintenance.

1st time: Everything seemed fine. 7500 mile check done. 24 hours or so later, I notice my car has a dent and scratches in the front quarter panel. It could've happened at my work where I've been for over 20 years and park near the same folks daily, or it could've been at the dealership when they moved it around. Since I have no way to prove it, I just eat the $250 deductible and get the $1250 in work done.

2nd time: No doubt it is the dealer's fault. I get home from the free work and go under the car to find oil dripping from the skid plates. I take them off and find puddles of oil all over the place, drips down the engine bay, and puddles on top of the block. My thought is they probably didn't get the oil nozzle into the car right and it spooged all over. They didn't bother to clean it up, which irks me and makes me wonder what other shoddy work is/was going on. I get a survey email from Scion, which I answer honestly about how I was treated. I get a how'd we do email from the dealer, which I also answer honestly and send back to the service manager. I get ZERO response from the dealer or Scion, even though both of my responses to them indicated I was unhappy and unlikely to EVER go to them again, "free" or not.

Conclusion: I will never go to the local dealer again for anything. I'm trying to sort out if another semi-local dealer is competent, but they are tiny and I don't have any FT86 info I can use to rate them. I'd at least like to have someone I feel good about for warranty work, like the rusted window pillars I need to replace. Oil changes will from hereon be done by myself, perhaps the local garage that I trust if I can't do it for some reason.

Actually my light has not condensated again, just because some people have certain issues doesnt mean we all will. Im sorry about your bad experiance at the dealership but i actually get great service from my dealership. Except for my wheel rotaion incident ive had no other issues.
