Did I wait to long to get an oil change?

I got my first oil change on my FR-S at around 7000 miles. I feel like I waited a little too long to get an oil change. Also how often should I get my oil changed? every 3000 or 5000 miles?

Some would argue you did for your first one including myselft, but after the first oil change your fine to go that long. Don't worry about it. Also, if I'm not mistaken, you can go up to 7500 mi/12000 km as per the owners manual. Please read the manual, yes it's long but it has a lot of good information in it!

Really depends on how you drive the car, in what conditions, and what kind of oil you use. Either way, if you do it between 5-7k, you'll be fine.

7500 miles. It's in the manual and dealership should have told you.

I did my first oil change 1 month ago. Car had 7400 mi and it marked the 2 yr anniversary. You're fine. Quality of most oils is quite good these days. I always heard the OEM oil is of quite good quality. Probably the same. My 07 CBR apparently had good oil to start with from the factory. Figured it would be the same for certain cars.

Changing your oil early the first time is recommended due to the new motor breaking in and having more particles of metal in the oil...

Changing the break-in oil early is not recommended by the manufacturer. Any particles of metal will be caught by the oil filter.

Lots of beneficial moly is present in the factory oil fill from the assembly lubes used. Modern Machining processes and quality control make for a clean block to begin with. Quality OEM oil filters catch most of the debris and what's left over aids in the break in.. You're fine.. Enjoy

I don't understand your reply. I think he means the initial oil in the engine. Who is claiming what miracles?

Exactly! Any Pre-Assembly lubes from the factory are long gone after a few hundred miles. Been at this game for 30+yrs and never had an engine failure. Raced cars for over 10yrs with SCCA; mine will be changed at about 1500mi just like all my cars have been. I also highly recommend a quality Synthetic oil like Amsoil or the like...

Have you had engine problems in cars where you did not change the oil until the first manufacturer recommended change?

12000kms? My dealer states 8000kms. I do mine every 6000km.

I do mine around 8-10k Km's. But ya that was in the owners manual for the 12000km.
