Normally water cooling setups used on RC boats use a Venturi in eh water behind the boat to suck water up, flow it over the motor and ESC, and then spit it back out into the water.

If I decide to use the water jacket setup I'll co opt a PC processor liquid cooling setup. That would include a radiator, resoiver, and DC pump to circulate the coolant. Typically hey run distilled water as the coolant. But this of course presents problems in a car so I would have to look into other options.

So everything is installed and ready to go except the controller. I'm very happy with how clean this setup looks.

I just finished as it stated to rain so I didn't get the best pictures.

I'm honestly not sure if that wheel will fit that housing. I'd email them and ask what size wheel the compressor fits.

You wouldn't be getting the backplate with that housing so I'm not sure it would be a very good deal for what you want. I would suggest looking at eBay for a cheap full t3/t4 turbo and then just strip it for the parts you need.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/T3-T4-TURBO-...ccb21f&vxp=mtr

I think he wheel you picked is for some specific application rather then a generic turbo so I'm not sure if you'll be able to find the correct housing for a reasonable price.

Have you figured out how you're going to couple the motor shaft to the compressor wheel?

The T3/T4 link you posted has Compressor wheel Exducer diameter of 70mm ... Not a lot for a slow spinning compressor per our prior conversation. The Seadoo Wheel IIRC was around 130mm. I have been looking for an off the shelf wheel large enough to create flow at slow rpm. Then I stumbled upon this link:

http://www.turbomaster.info/eng/appl...compressor.php

All the way to the end, you see some of the largest wheels Garrett makes , upward of 100mm. Under TV75 you can see the the wheel size as Ex 102mm, ind 76mm etc. The housing from Kinugawa is a Garrett TV7512. The wheel was a very close match in specs and to a novice like me looked like it would fit.

Anyhow, I will be honest that I know very little about turbos/compressors and wheel matching. I am just out looking for the largest compressor wheel/housing combo out there. Primarily because the hobby motors tend to be limited by rpm and not power. Leopard has motors all the way to 7600W .. but limited to 35k rpm. (they do have 40krpm motors topping at 5500W)

Also, the wheel I posted is for a Garrett GT4202. Housing for this wheel is available on ebay for around $310 ish.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Garrett-Comp...ac3012&vxp=mtr

Here is a compressor map for GT4202:53trim.
http://www.turbomaster.info/eng/appl...31376-0002.php

............................................

As for coupling the motor to the wheel, I was planning on following pretty much what you did ... the collet adapter.
............................................

It looks like there is no way to avoid a trip to the machine chop, I was hoping to have a backing plate machined , in Aluminum ... Not sure if it will be bolted in or if I will need an appropriate sized C clip like the Phantom setup.

FYI: I invite all criticism as I have no experience with these and would like to know if I am totally off course.

Thanks again.

Okay ... looks like there are a few pre-assembled full setups on ebay for large compressor wheels:

What else do I need to look for: Larger A/R since its a low boost application :

It's really hard to know what will or won't work since this works so differently then an traditional turbo. I still don't even know how well my SeaDoo compressor will work although it's looking very good so far.

In general I would agree that the larger wheel is the way to go, I'm no sure what effect going with a larger housing will have. Maybe here is some turbo expert out there who can weigh in on this.

The collet adapter isn't going to be as easy to implement on a turbo compressor. Garrett turbos use a 1/4" shaft for he wheel and I have yet to find a collet adapter hat will fit that. I think Mitsubishi Uses a 6.5mm shaft if I recall correctly. The SeaDoo compressor also has the advantage that it has a recessed space on he front and back which makes the length of adapter needed relatively short. With most turbo impeller wheels the adapter would have to fit the whole thickness of the wheel unless you were to machine out a recess in the bottom which would be tricky.

Thats too bad ... just when I was getting a hang of compressor maps and had a couple good options .... T70 or T72 with 102mm wheel looks like a very good candidate.

What in you opinion is the best way to couple a turbo compressor wheel to an 8mm motor shaft ? Do you know what setup phantom is using ?

I think some sort of direct coupling is best. From looking at the phantom website I think that Rob is custom machining the motor shafts, or may be having them made to order at this point. It looks like the end of the shaft is drilled and tapped (using a mill and custom clamp). My guess is that he is either creating a shoulder on the shaft for the wheel to rest on, or widening the bottom portions of the hole in the wheel.

This all gets very tricky to machine and requires a lot of custom setup. I'm sure I could do it, but I'm I'm glad I found the SeaDoo supercharger which has turned out to be surprisingly well suited for this.

As it happens I bought a T70 turbo as part of my testing plans. If your seriously thinking about using one let me know, I'd sel it to you for dirt cheap.

Since I'm getting close to ready to start testing I've emailed the OpenFlash Tablet folks to see if I can get a copy of the tune being used with the Phantom ESC. It should work pretty much the same in terms of tuning. I'm not sure if @shiv has been following this thread at all, but hopefully he won't have any issues with sharing the tune. I'm also happy to pay for some custom tuinging from Vishnu since their tunes seem to all be topnotch.

Thanks ... I was pretty serious about a T72 untill you told me about the coupling issues ...

How stable has the collet adapter on the 8mm shaft and high speeds ... does the motor.housing shake at all ?
