Great 'mod' for the car by the way.. To anyone who is still hesitant or putting off doing it, go do it! It's very easy as long as you follow the video guide.
No service tech is gonna bother going down there with a ruler to measure that shit -_- nor can they prove that it didn't come like that from the factory

Done this AM. Set it juuuust above the brake. Drove it to the next city and back, spirited. Just incredible the difference it makes. Thanks.

Did the adjustment today and ended up setting the clutch pedal slightly above the brake pedal, first tried to set it below the brake pedal as per instructions but I found that to be too direct for my taste, now I can slowly ease of the clutch pedal and move without any gas input, just like in my previous car ( also a toyota ) and all the manuals before that. Made a big difference, this will make reversing, slow traffic, balancing on the clutch on a slight incline, etc... much easier. Thank you !

I'm sorry if this has been posted but i couldnt find it in 150 first posts (over 450). Am i the only one who has about 1 inch of "no resistance whatsoever" before the clutch kicks on depress ? It seems to be even worse on startup (i guess since fluids are colder) because i even have to pull my clutch with the top of my foot to see the gear indicator/activate the cruise control. Is it possible to i put my clutch too low ?

It is normal to have a softer/mushier pedal with less resistance at the top after doing this adjustment

And the gear indicator not showing up might simply mean you didn't adjust the indicator to register lower along with lowering the clutch pedal.

Here is a picture of the gear indicator white switch: http://i1067.photobucket.com/albums/...g?t=1339388676

It is not supposed to look like that in the picture - the large white 'pad' is supposed to be lined up almost flush with the silver bolt. (a little tiny bit of white should show to make sure the selector is not pushing your clutch down)

Just did it and I am not sure if the bolt behind the U shape bracket is tight enough. I did use the 12mm wrench to tightening it, but it slipped on the bolt.. I don't think I mess up the bolt, so I used my fingers to turn it tight, if it doesn't turn no more (with fingers force) I guess it is tight enough.

Should check it once a while to make sure it does not start loosening on you

And to make the 12mm tightening much easier, you need to use a very short wrench (like less than 5 inches) to make sure it's grabbing correctly because there is not much room for positioning back there

My 12mm is short and I had room to move it, but still couldn't grab the bolt good enough.. anyways the drive is a lot smoother now, will keep an eye on the bolt. I am just scare that if I do adjustment again I will destroy the bolt because the 12mm slip on it when I turn. It was already like that when I unbolt it, but I still manage to loosen it.

How is everyone's clutch doing after this adjustment? I adjusted my clutch pedal a couple mm higher than my brake, but I'm paranoid that even though I'm fully depressing the clutch, I might not be releasing it completely.

edit: just read through a few of the comments in this thread... good information. I'm going to do the checks to test for fully dis-engaging clutch as recommended by some members.

I'm slightly below the brake, I would say you're completely fine. Easy check is to put it into gear (while stepping on clutch) - first time around you'll feel the transmission kick back a bit - take it back into neutral (still on the clutch) and back into gear - should be seamless, and will not have the transmission 'clunk' from the first time. If you left off the clutch then back into gear, it will 'clunk' again.

Just did this mod and was really surprised and how my shifting improved! What I noticed is if I slowly let off the clutch and add no gas the car automatically starts going without any gas needed. This is also the same for reverse as well. I know before with my old clutch position it would stall. Is this normal?

Depends on where the clutch is when the car starts to move. If it's moving right as your foot is coming off the ground, that means you're never fully disengaging the clutch and the pedal should be raised. If you've got maybe .5"-1" of travel before the car starts to move, you should be fine.

As far as moving without stalling, do you have any power mods? I'm completely stock and my car always seems like it's going to stall if I let off slowly with no throttle.

Recently tried this mod and very happy with new clutch engagement point. Question though: I initially set the pedal too low, and while there was zero grinding (per the OP's test for success), I was immediately able to smell burnt friction disk (just down the block for a test drive). I adjusted the pedal up (just above brake pedal) and seemingly, problem solved. Occasionally though, I feel like I get the slightest whiff of friction material after I park the car. Might be in my head though, or the brakes, or any number of things. Anyone else experience this? Mechanically, if the clutch didn't fully disengage because of the pedal being set too low, I can't see how the clutch would be slipping, resulting in burnt disc? Am I overthinking this, or not thinking enough?
