RIP dedicated V-Power pump, even Kennedy and Passmore refreshed their pumps last weekend. My HPFP is now chirping like a bitch! But at least now with the crickets, I can no longer hear my pillowball joints clanking in the rear during bumper to bumper traffic on bad roads lol!

Well tonight I noticed my chirp is back. Had it fixed around this time last year I think. Granted I put the car away in the winter, only have put mebbe 2500-3000kms so far this year. (that's not much for me considering my commute is 900/wk) I got an airmiles card this year so have been putting shell 91 in exclusively.. mebbe time I mixed it up a bit.

Car has 26,000kms on it

Interesting, been using nothing but Shell 91 but after a day trip to Niagara Falls and back from Toronto last fall, the car developed the chirp and always had the chirp. Spent a day out at the Mosport big track today, morning, usual chirp. Near empty (didn't think we'd go through gas that quickly!) put in 15L of Ultra 94 at the track and another 20L from somebody else that was also Ultra 94. Filled up with 37L of Shell 91 in Brooklin and another 40-50 drive home, still no chirping.

Doesn't make any sense.

Well, it's likely that chirping is very loosely related to the fuel you put in the tank.

The official explanation is that the pump causes cavitation. My guess is that the temperature of the day and fuel, the temperature of the pump itself, and lastly the chemical composition of the fuel (how much gasoline, ethanol, and water) contributes to the amount of cavitation and thus the the volume of the chirping.

I just put in my very first fill of Ultra 94 tonight. We'll see how it goes. The other day I heard an absolutely awful noise that I can only assume was a death rattle caused by detonation after startup, I'm trying 94 to see if the engine runs appreciably smoother.

UPDATE: Chirping is MOST DEFINITELY related to the fuel. The U94 finally hit my fuel pump (I have a very short drive home from the gas station) and it's the first time I thought my engine sounded like it was broken. Good GOD, that is REALLY loud chirping.

Well got my hopes up too high, chirp came back.

Forgot to clarify that after we put the Ultra 94 in and ran the car out on the track for a decent amount of time, the chirping disappeared.

When this tank goes empty I'll try Ultra 94 for kicks. Doubt it'll make any difference given everybody's experience.

Just read another post where somebody yesterday mentioned they got their pump replaced with the latest and greatest revision. No details on what the part # yet.

Third year of an early production car, tried ALL the different blends, NO chirping on ANY of them.
But a big difference in performance.

Now that I have an OFT tune, Im gonna run the same tests.
So far, I noticed a huge performance increase with a mix of Shell 91 mixed with some 98 octane race gas that brought the mix close to 93 octane.

Gonna try the Petrocan 94 with corn juice next.
Anyone know where there is ESSO 93 in the GTA ?

Woodbine and Steeles Esso has 93. It has corn juice in it as well.

I try to stay away from ethanol since I don't drive my car everyday, and sometimes it could sit in my garage for a week.

According to some hearsay evidence on TSC, apparently any 91 pump is actually pumping out 93 E10

Source: Esso reps?

Makes sense as a corporate rip off profit motive move, no more ESSO 91 corn juice free , but the same 91 with ethanol added to try to make it 93 ( less gas, more corn, more profit ).

I would rather have the pure 91.

I too strictly used Shell V-power and have replaced my fuel pump 4 times now.

Thankfully its covered under warranty.
I'm on my 3rd pump at 6000 miles now using strictly shell 93. Maybe we're screwing up lol.
