The dealer said replacement keys were $585, so that would be an expensive plan!

This is the best type of keyless entry!

I still want to know if there is a way to have the doors auto lock for safety while driving and if there is a way to make the doors auto lock when you get out and close the door to walk away without having to touch the door handle sensor.

Today I accidentally discovered that there's an easy way to override night mode (and day mode as well) on the BRZ's head unit. This might work on other head units as well, but since I don't have one to test, I don't know.

If you press and hold the "Audio" button, a hidden menu appears that, as far as I know, is not in the manual for the nav unit. If you're in day mode, a "Night" button appears at the top of the screen in that menu. If you're in night mode, that button says "Day" instead. Pressing that button toggles the night/day modes and causes it to ignore the headlights without having to adjust your display to full brightness.

So if you're driving with your headlights on in the rain during the day and want your display at daylight brightness, just press and hold the Audio button and push the "Day" button on the screen. I wish those idiots had put that in the manual instead of having me curse them for months for not including an intuitive way to override the automatic brightness settings.

I've had my FRS for a while now and I just discovered this hidden feature

I believe it the BRZ also has this.

Open the driver or passenger side door and lift up the latch under the seat, and pull the seat forward as much as it will go. Turn on the dome light and you'll notice that in the back, there's a couple of seats.

Thanks man. The bright ass screen on long night drives used to kill me. Been looking for a way to shut the display off.

This is top three best things in this thread. How the hell is this not in some quick start guide? So much fail in the stock head unit.

Thanks. I would have been happy to find it in the manual at all. I went through that whole book and didn't see it anywhere.

As Andrew025 mentioned above, there's also a button on that menu that turns the display off altogether, as well as some sliders for brightness and contrast. I didn't think to include those earlier because I was so happy to have found a way to brighten the display while driving in the rain with the headlights on.

I found it quite by accident. I reached up to hit the audio button just as I went over a patch of rough road. I guess I held the button down longer than usual while being jostled around, and that menu popped up, and I said out loud, "WTF is that?"

This didn't seem to work for me.. what head unit do you have? I've got a 2014 Monogram with the Bespoke and when I press and hold the Audio button, it just reads it as a press.

This is for the BRZ head unit. It actually says 'DISP' above the audio button to denote the secondary function. I missed it for 5 months.

For the 2014 head unit just click display button on top right of screen when it's on. I can take picture of it when I'm off work.

Ah, thanks. I remember that button now and someone else pointed it out, too.

You can also set it to ignore headlights and switch modes based on time instead, which is on a standard menu in settings.
