I'm an analyst for a living, I get pretty anal about giving people accurate information... No offense meant though JFC! For the record I really hope you're right, if it means anything.

Definitely the initial purchase price will be high, but eventually it will fall to around 30k + orc if not less depending on the dealer and customer negotiation skills.

JFC, I think, well speaking for myself, that the reason of doubt in your predicted cost is that you hadn't actually said where you got that from.. Without providing the source it's just heresay, your opinion. Now that you have mentioned it comes from a Toyota employee it holds a little more credibility.
I still, personally, think it will be more expensive, but I hope your contact is right

Just thinking about my transportation to and from work, I'd never bought a new car before, I have seen my parents done it a few times before, but I was little never paid attention to what was going on. Anyways, If I were to buy the 86 and do the paper work in June at the same time wanting to trade my car in. Do they take the car away from you straight away or can you drive it till your new car arrives for pick up?

Few ways around it...

I enquired about trading in (not for the 86 btw) about a month ago and because the delivery times are so long on that car (enquired in March expect August Delivery), they will do all the numbers now and should you choose to keep your current car until such time they re-evaluate then.... now I wasn't too comfortable with that kind of openness (particularly given the possible gap)

The other is you do the deal, then they write you a cheque for your car and you hand it over then... get yourself a beater for the interim (we actually done this in anticipation of our 86)

Thanks for the info!

I should note..we sold our car that the 86 is replacing, didn't trade it..

I did not want to be stuck with the bloody thing as I know imports take a long time to sell! and it did.. about 4 months on the market to be precise. We listed it as soon as we put our pre-order in last Dec.

I would of course talk to the dealer about your options though, but we all know a private sale is going to net you the most return in most cases.

Yeah, i'll have a chat with the dealer. I was thinking of selling it privately (more moolah then trade in) but afraid of getting stuck with the current car too. LOL!

if the car is in good condition and it's a reasonably popular model. it should sell within 2 months if priced realistically.

i bought 2 new cars previously before selling my old cars and both times didn't take me too long to sell them.

35,000 kms

2008 Suzuki Swift (Rally Edition) R.E.2

no accidents besides very light marks not visible to the eye from distance (made by previous owner by moving things out and in from the boot). Well looked after, keeping the Service logs up to date.

doesn't sound too hard to sell. i guess you are in the city right? the further away into country places the harder it is to sell.

as soon as you have confirmed your order, put it up for sale. in my experience, it's pretty slow for the first 2 weeks then calls start to come in.

For those thinking the price will be around $35k for standard model. You may also be right but you may have to wait at least a year or two. It is only matter of time but production will eventually catch up with initial demand. Then the price can be lowered or other incentives can be offered to stimulate more demand. Even if there is no official decrease in price, dealers will then be more flexible on pricing. It'll depend on your negotiating skills.

This is pricing strategy is called "skimming"

"Price skimming is a product pricing strategy by which a firm charges the highest initial price that customers will pay. As the demand of the first customers is satisfied, the firm lowers the price to attract another, more price-sensitive segment."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Price_skimming
I was hoping this would be the fact for the WRX but I think because of the BRZ the wrx will remain at 40k.

Cant have a turbo, 5door, 4wd car cheaper than the BRZ now can we

As far as im aware the BRZ in OZ will be better equipped then the Toyota offerings. So if Subaru have already claimed their BRZ should be under 40k how can a Toyota be anywhere near 40k?

Skimming should be illegal, we need better regulated pricing in Oz. Charging more simply because they can is so not cool.
