From what I understand something similar to the hybrid drivetrain in the MR-2 concepts could end up in a much more expensive future Toyota sports cars. Like a hybrid version of FT-1 and or the BMW and Toyota joint project car. Toyota and BMW are also rumored to be working on a second joint mid engine car to take on the 911. But its just rumors at this point, so take it with a gain of salt. ![]() http://www.carscoops.com/2011/11/toy...ts-hybrid.html ![]() http://www.carscoops.com/2010/01/toy...ts-hybrid.html Last edited by vh_supra26; 06-10-2014 at 11:55 PM. |

The new platform could be used for a new Z4, rumored Z7, and ect. On Toyota's side, a new 86, FT-1 (Supra), and ect. Quote:

I think it is only a matter of time before fuel efficiency and carbon legislation will drive all vehicles to hybridization. It may not be for the Gt86/FRS/BRZ, but perhaps it's successor.

You were saying that giving the FR-S more power would suddenly make it heavy like a 370Z, as if any car with power would have to be, which isn't true at all. Weight gains from a 2.5L and/or a turbo or supercharger would be minimal and not affect the chassis. Some people don't want the bigger, bulkier platform and v6. They want what they already have but faster.

Ok? Let me explain this to you. When I am pushing the car hard through the mountain roads, which twist, turn and require a lot of shifting and power adapting, a lot of times I found myself in 4th gear around 65/70mph. At this point I am pretty much maxed out to point where I could not literally use any more power without crashing. The car just could not take the corners any faster. So what would more hp do for me here? Allow me to get 1000 ft down the road faster? So I could get to that 4th gear what, a mere .5 sec faster? It just doesn't make sense for me. I believe I'm using the car (track aside) as it was meant to be used. If you have not experienced this car in the some sort of mountainous area than you have not experienced this car.
This is all given the environment I live in, where I am surrounding by the Appalachians. If you're living where it's pretty much flat I understand why you would want more power, but in that event you chose the wrong car. Finally if you do live in the former and still complain about power, than I believe you just want more power to simply say you have the power, or the idea of knowing it's there. For example, shelby gt500 owners know that there is no possible way they could ever use all that power on real world roads, even on the track they could never fully use it. So why spend all that money? Why would you want power you could never use. The idea of knowing it's there I guess. |
