I just wanted to say "Thanks" to Mike and the whole AZP crew. What a terrific event! Well organized. Very informative tech sessions and track walk thanks to Aaron Provoledo. And I don't think we could have asked for better weather. What a great day!

What a great event. I had an excellent time. The NJMP Lighting facility was first-rate, with a comfortable classroom, great food, and clean bathrooms. Aaron Provoledo was aboot the nicest Canadian racer I ever met, and he was a very dynamic, descriptive, and CLEAR instructor in the classroom and out on the track walk. Really exceptional instruction for a noob like myself. My in-car instructor was great, as well--very enthusiastic, encouraging, and confidence inspriring. He got me up to speed very quickly.

This was only my second-ever track day, and first with the BRZ. What a great track car. Very intuitive handling, very forgiving, and the cornering limits were surprisingly high. I'm used to riding off-road motorcycles in the woods, where 35 mph is really hauling the mail. It took serious acclimation to being on a track where every corner was taken at 60mph or more. I saw 115 coming into turn 1--yowsa!!

All in all, an awesome event, and I look forward to trying it again.

I have to echo these comments as well and it can not be overstated. I thought my instructor also did a fantastic job and I consider myself very fortunate that we ended up together! Really a first rate guy. I learned a lot from him and I wish I could spend more time with his coaching.

115 mph huh? Wow, that's quick. I wasn't really LOOKING at the speedometer but I think I saw 112, you were a few ticks quicker than me. But I think the key is to get a really good exit off of the bowl. And be REALLY committed in the braking zone. By the 3rd session I was braking deeper and deeper but it's knee weakening stuff.

Motorsports photography is kind of a hobby of mine. It actually felt kind of odd to be walking around the paddock with a helmet in my hands instead of my DSLR.

I had it in mind to talk to the photographer and maybe even pick up some professional tips (I'm just an amateur) but just never had the chance or the time. I ended up buying a few shots from the link above. The man really does fine work! Anybody who was there should check it out!

And I just figured I would post this too...a few minutes of video footage I shot.

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z6zdvSw_prE"]NJMotorsports - YouTube[/ame]

In some ways it was a bit disappointing. Video never looks quite as dramatic or as fast as it feels from inside the car. It almost looks Grandma slow. And I also found that it was actually difficult to see a difference between those laps where I was really trying to put the hammer down from those where I had backed off. That is to say, one CAN tell, but it's not a dramatic difference. Perhaps it says more about my driving than anything.
