Agreed. Whenever I hit the highways, I put it on. I think the car does a little bit better on gas this way, and it keeps my speed from wandering due to not paying 100% attention to the speedo in hilly areas. It saves me from getting pulled over when some cop is hiding in the bushes around a corner at the bottom of a big hill trying to bust unsuspecting drivers. Also, it lets you relax your feet and change positions a little bit, which I find nice for longer drives.

It's true. In my Integra I would get better gas mileage manually hypermiling than using the cruise control. Perhaps one day when I am better at driving this car things will change but for now the cruise control saves me gas.

This probably affects my answer. I live in the foothils of the Smokies. LOTS of elevation changes. So if you live in flat land area or a less mountainous region, then you may see a significant increase in mileage.
I drive my car like a bat out of hell and I have never reset the Avg. MPG setting on my dash. 13,000 miles and a couple days of REALLY spirited mountain roads and my car averages, since day one of ownership, 28.6 mpg's.
I've used my cruise control maybe 20 times and always on the highway. I do live in Georgia though. Home of the worst fu&*ing drivers on the planet. So cruise control is rarely an option.
80+ mph on the hwy-ALWAYS, 55-60 on the majority of surface streets-ALWAYS.
Hope any of this helps.

We really are a bunch of horrible speeding know it alls in Georgia lol. I honestly hate driving around here. For the simple fact it's like going to war everytime you get in a car.

I try and stick to pure back roads other than my commute to work

This. I speed because racecar. I've always sped tho. The worst part is the friggin "Oh look, someone's walking down the road, minding their own business. Lets all jam our GD brakes and see if we know them or can hear their thoughts."

MAkes me hate Ga. That and the heat.

Cruise control kept me from getting my license suspended back in the day - so I just kept using it on my vehicles. It's way too nice to rocket along and thanks to the limited insulation, I can't even claim I didn't realize I was going ninety; I knew it and just didn't care!

And yeah - it's a must for long road trips.

It is nice that the new systems are so much simpler though. The only thing I miss from the old vacuum system cruise controls was being able to use it at low speeds. I could set the cruise in my Celica as low as 20 mph, which is great for the little speed-trap towns.

Mine doesn't set below 30 (I'll have to try again now) - I wonder if there's a difference between auto and stick?

The stalk for CC is the same in all modern Toyotas. Had the exact same thing in my two prior Tundras. Every manufacturer does it a little different. Some have clicky switches, some have soft buttons (Toyota, Ram, Mercedes).

Why are you trying to use CC at such low speeds? What drove me nuts was in my GTO CC wouldn't set above 80 which blows in California for long highway drives.

I forgot all about that in the GTO. Of course, 81+ in Ga will get you shot.
