But then comes paragraph 3 where you are telling the world that adding power to this car is "wrong". Where do you get off telling the rest of us what to or not to do? Paragraph 4 is nothing more than your opinion, your nirvana is not mine by any stretch of the imagination PS: I am curious about your screen name considering that with your apparent aversion to high horsepower cars the Supra seems to be the antithesis of your personal taste?

As for his screen name, it probably means he is a fan of the supra or an enthusiast. Just because he is saying this car should remain the power level it is doesnt mean it is a sin for him to love speed and therefore have a car that is more powerful. you are kind of a **** in your post. chill out. if you disagree with him then supercharge or turbo your car. no one is stopping you. |

Those cars have their own compromises such as initial price, reliability, maintenance, versatility, insurance cost etc, etc. Sure if money were not a consideration then something like that would be nice for a weekend drive but realistically they are about as practical for every day use as a Amish buggy for most of us.

That is nothing similar to saying " I love this car just the way it is but I respect those who see it differently." No one else can tell me what my car is "meant to be" other than myself so don't attempt to do so regarding my car or my disposition. The Supra reference I simply find ironic as it is without a doubt the most seriously HP modified car in existence.

Yeah, $$$.
Not really. It would only be better with more power. The light weight and good handling wouldn't suddenly disappear. |

First off love these cars but if I had a dime for everyone said "balanced" on this forum...
Can someone please explain what they mean by "balance". Are you all referring balance to how well the car handles? Or are you referring to how balanced the car is in terms of grip, aero, braking, drifting, driver feedback, ect, and ACCELERATION? Because the car stock is way above average in mostly everything and pretty darn shitty when it comes to acceleration or power, however you want to say it. Seems pretty imbalanced when you look at it that way. And if you mean balanced by handling, I don't see how more power would ruin the handling and make it out of "balance". |

Balance generally refers to how the car balances it's grip between all 4 wheels. Some cars understeer if you try and push them, some cars throw the tail as soon as you introduce them to a corner. Some cars roll around, some are like dinner trays (karts).
It's not static and a lot of "bad balance" comes from "bad driving" and not being sympathetic to the car's weight transfers. It's not just about suspension, tyres, running gear etc. Power, and the application of, affects balance. Give a car way too much power and you'll never be able to use it in a corner or you'll upset the balance and the cars handling will be affected. It may become snappy or loose. It may in fact, even in capable hands, end up slower in the corners. How much does a turbo or charger kit weigh? That will be, no doubt, 100kg(?) added to the front end. That will effect the balance, like having someone sitting on the bonnet. More weight at the front, more power at the back, what could possibly go wrong? I think a lot of less focused cars may well have a stylist choose the alloys and tyres, but I believe this car was designed to have the power it has and the tyres it has. Changing either changes the balance and that will change the handling. Of course, some people may prefer it that way, others won't. I like the point someone made about "speed is subjective", it's more about feel than actual numbers. If you have a car that does 0-60 in 3 seconds, that will be a rush, but in some cars going 60mph seems boring and slow and you want to push it to 100mph to get any kicks. In the GT86 I have been laughing my bollox off in a corner at 20mph and accelerating out of it into another corner feeling like I was doing the ton and looked at the speedo to find I wasn't even breaking the speed limit in a 40mph zone! That's my kind of car. If a Focus RS or Clio RS burns me off at the lights cause it's got more grunt per kilo, then I really, really don't give a fuck. Anyone can pimp a family runabout, but it takes genius to make a good handling sports car. All just my opinions, your welcome to your own. Live and let drive. |
