Ignoring money, if you don't want to toss tires that have life left in them (understandable), yeah, you might as well spend $15 on crash bolts. You'll want them eventually anyway, and you'll want all the camber they can give you.

Agree, I did two years worth of autoX in my Celica on a set of Yokohama S. Drives and still got a decent amount of life out of them.

I also did 2 or 3 events of the stock Primacy's and had an absolute blast, wasn't really competitive at all though, tossed on a set of Star Specs and locally I was at the front end of RTR all last year. There was a BRZ who had same tires, but a muffler delete, lightweight wheels, crash bolts, alignment and a front sway and we traded times back and forth all year, it just depended on who had the better event.

If you want to just have fun, do the crash bolts, run the stock tires, enjoy yourself.

If your more interested in being competitive locally, get a set of tires first and you should easily be able to get within half a second of the a twin prepped to the max for the class, dependent on driving ability of course.

Then just hope no 370z's show up :P

I want to see more 370Z's at pros and tours so that SEB can determine if the 370Z belongs in CS or BS, or if our cars should be moved into a different class.

While I agree, Nationals isn't where I want to see them, but I knew it was inevitable, it's the easy button right now. Used ones can be had for $20k. $2000 in prep and trophy

I don't think your economics are quite right, as the wheel and tire prep alone on those cars is probably 2k. They also have questionable reliability and a very weak rear differential. But generally yes, they aren't hard to prep.

We are really going to need to see how they stack up at Nationals, with Jeff Stuart against Chris Fenter. Personally my money is on Chris in the MX-5. I don't think there is any data yet to say the Z is actually an overdog in the class.

Go look at Flannigan in National RTR last year. 6th in RTR on a car with minimal seat time, Konis, front bar and tires (stock HEAVY wheels). Also, there was a Pro earlier this year the Z just walked on everyone

I didn't know of reliability issues. I've always thought Z33/Z34s were relatively strong if you aren't modding the hell of the engine (as long as you keep those 03-06 350zs topped up on oil).

Edit: I just looked up weights on those wheels. 19x9 and 19x10 and they weight 23.2 and 23.8lbs respectively. Not bad compared to our 21lb 17x7s lol. Lighter than expected by a good 5 lbs. Looks like the available aftermarket legal wheels are expensive to save 2-3lbs at most so I think that's a pass. So $700 for shocks, $200 for a bar, $1000 for tires

Edit 2: $1200 for tires. Good god, 19s are expensive...

Speaking of Nationals... mind if I ask what people are running damper-wise and what their opinions on them are?

I am tempted to go default and get some Koni's but I have seen way too many dynos that show them being very inconsistent. If I do go Koni's though, I can probably get a set before Nationals. Anything more expensive is going to be a bit harder to swing.

Konis here. If I had $4000 for a set of MCS', I'd rather use that for a set of V3s, header, tune and 9" wheels and have a good start on STX lol

well, 6th isn't 1st so there's that. There also was no Fenter there, and 2 twins finishing ahead of him. Flanagan hops cars all the time, I wouldn't say adaptation from car A to car B is a problem for him.

Fair enough with the car-hopping. I've known the man for 9 months and he's on his 3rd autocross car haha

Unless I'm at the point where I think I'm getting 100% out of the car, and no one in the nation can drive my car faster than me, I'm not going to get too worried about having the absolute best car for the class. I'm not there, and I'm not quite sure anyone else in this thread is either. The fact of the matter is, Fenter / Stuart are better drivers than we are, so worrying about having the 'wrong' car for the class (that is obviously going to see things shuffle in 2015 anyway) seems a bit ridiculous.

My competitive side makes me hate being down even in theory by that much. This solo racing is all I have in my mundane life right now lol. When I lose, I want to know that anyone who beat me was solely on skill and on not on better equipment.

Yeah, I may have issues haha
