Have you had paint work on a WRB?
Quote:
Perfect paint match and flaws are two TOTALLY different things. My front bumper is pretty jacked from rock chips and me tapping a curb. Funny thing is that it doesn't but me a bit. Paint mis-match bugs me A LOT! I'll take a scrape, swirl marks, scuffs any day of the week over paint that doesn't match. Not looking for perfect, just not looking for something that stands out. I'm fine with a DD that looks like a DD, just not okay with a car that looks like I cheaped out on paint

I'm dreading going to the body shop for my WRB. I want to ask them to see if I can keep the old bumper just in case. The factory match is absolutely perfect.

You simply have to scan, custom mix, and blend these pearls. The factory codes are really just a guide.

A color camera is pretty much useless on a tri stage anyway. Test panels are the only way to figure out what it takes for a proper match. Plus the camera formulas are pretty hit or miss anyway. We use the camera maybe once or twice a year and basically only to figure out what color a car is that's been re-sprayed before and the owner has no idea what color was used

One of my best friends has 30+ years experience and I've worked with him. The post a few up is right too, though, test cards are the rule here. The camera helps shorten the process but it's not the whole picture. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Have you had paint work on a WRB?
Paint came back well for my car. Color was a near perfect match, but painter said he had to call the paint manufacturer and they gave him a different code. I asked if they blended and the guy heading it up said no (he probably didn't know) , but I can tell that they did! I'm glad they did as it looks near perfect! (I have a better eye than most for paint that is not perfect). I put it under a couple different lights and found the tape lines. They did a great job for me to actually have to look for it.

I actually went back to the body shop today to talk to them about the color. They're going to spray a few test panels for me then repaint the fender and door. I wish i could get a picture of what i can see cuz some people are telling me i'm crazy. In the shade its a 95% match, in the sunlight it looks way different to me. |

Everyone thought I was crazy on the difference in colors on here, so I took the car to autox this weekend. EVERY person I showed it to saw the color difference right away, and I didn't have to point it out.….pictures hide a lot. Here's what I've walked away with and hopefully this helps you a bit. (1) It's a car. It's going to have it's imperfections and they will increase over time (2) Your paint will never be perfect again. It will never match perfectly, just look for it to not stand out. You will drive yourself CRAZY trying to get it back to factory standards. Get it in your head right now that it won't be there and BE OKAY WITH IT (this is easier said than done as I am trying to wrap my head around it even now) (3) I was walking with my wife and the dogs tonight and she brought up the idea of not picking out EVERY flaw on the car and learning to just enjoy it. It's time to focus on what's important (for us, starting a family and securing our future financially) I've been a little worried about getting the car on a track for fear of the new little scratches IT WILL get. I think that fear is gone. I feel a little more free from the paranoia of the newest scratch. It's like the first chip on the front bumper. I know I thought, "well, crap!" even though I knew it was bound to happen (mine happened second day), but when I look at it now, I have a TON and they don't bother me one bit. The car looks GREAT, and no one is going to notice the difference other than you. If you can walk up to the car and have to look for it yourself, you are golden! Good luck with the car, man! I know for me they had to add another couple coats of pearl for it to match better and even then they still had to blend it into the rear quarter panels so it didn't "pop" If you look at my signature, you can see my bumper is even off in that picture and it's the factory paint. Couple pics to leave you with ![]() ![]() ![]() Daylight the first time I saw her ![]() And tonight before I took her on a drive. ![]() And just for fun because I added yellow fogs today as well.

With all the problems they had as far as color tinting and test panels go, blending the quarters was probably the best route to take. They should really send the painter to ppg school for waterborne tinting. Their supplier should cover the bill and it's actually a fun class. I've been to 4 lol

Just thought I'd mention I'm going through the same problem with my WRB brz. I was rear ended and had the bumper painted in December. It looked fine over the winter. I didn't really notice anything. I was washing my car a couple weeks ago and bam! it stood out like crazy. It almost looks like wrb but faded after many years in the sun. Going to take it back to the shop who did the work. It is really noticeable near the rear wheels.

Spoke with the body shop last night. This is what he referred me to http://www.ppg.com/coatings/refinish...er_9x12_UK.pdf
I still think I am going to get a second opinion. |

Wanted to bump this up, im supposed to get my mismatched panels resprayed again very soon but I'm not 100% on the color.
It seems to be bluer than the factory color which has more of a steel blue color compared to the sprayouts I got from the shop. Has anyone had WRB successfully matched to the factory paint? pics? I'm trying to get ahold of a good camera to take some pics for u guys so u can see what I'm working with here. |
