I'd agree with some of the guys above me and recommend Pumas.

However, my own preference is for any Brazilian leather shoe. They may be different brands, but they are always narrow with thin rubber soles and soft, supple leather with calfskin linings. Men's Warehouse and Macy's usually carry a pair or two, usually around $120/pair. Nordstrom has an overflow store here in WA called Nordstrom Rack where you can find them for $60/pair.

I wear the same shoes no matter what I'm doing, asics gels.
Barefoot is always an option, I do it every now and then if I happen to be wearing flip flops, which...flip flops are the WORST to drive in lol

For non driving shoes, my vans rowleys have awesome grip on the pedals and allow good heel-toe movement. Plus they're cheap and comfortable.

Exactly. Need to grab a wrench but you don't want to crawl out from under your car? Boom. Problem solved.

I wear dress shoes to work every day, but hate driving in them. So I'll just wear my Adidas-nothing-special-shoes to drive there and change before I go in.

I have some thin wide and firm running shoes I like the best. Wide firm toe helps with heel toe downshift

I've worn some skate style shoes with somewhat thin soles and squared sole edges that worked pretty darn good for pedal feel, but the "weird" Pumas and other similar designs are still the best. You should definitely give them a shot for driving days and try to get used to them.

If you're out shoe shopping:
Look for something with a predictable shape, either one that countours your foot (like the Pumas) or a simple sole shape like a skate shoe. Running shoes often have bulged out heels and weird knobs and bulges around the edges, these common designs are TERRIBLE for driving because the shapes will catch the pedals at odd times. Also look for something that has a thinner sole. It doesn't need to be paper thin, but should be flexible. Also make sure the shoe fits at least a little snug, you don't want the shoe to hang off the side of your foot or come off your heel.

These are fantastic. I actually love driving in toms in general, super light, very thing and has the feel of "almost" barefoot but you still have a nice flat sole to push into.

I use converse, Chuck Taylors. Minimal padding between your foot and pedal. Stylish as well.
