In this thread are two types of people:

People who want the best "bang for buck" power mods, nitpicking every detail and comparing $4k turbo kits vs what Cosworth offers.

And then there's the others who understand what Cosworth represents.

Same with getting a "cheap" $1000 Enkei RPF1, versus someone running around on forged wheels 3x as much.

For me, a Cosworth build is much like a Tomei build. Expensive and overpriced (especially complete engines), but a dream (and quite the experience) to own a car with their parts.

Oh, let's not forget the price is MSRP and most likely includes a complete flash by an authorized Cosworth dealer. Compare that against your average backyard tuner using OFT or some type of DIY software... and you really can't compare the two.

But what I'm saying will be lost here.

Still cheaper than a Hermes hand bag. cheaper than 1 week in Europe, cheaper than one ticket round trip in business class to Japan.

For a premium brand part, its not bad.

Let me rephrase:

Everyone wants to complain about Cosworth pricing. See above posts.

Same thing like paying premium for Ohlins or JRZ or Penske when you can get 99% of the performance for cheaper (see: KW, RCE, others).

What's the issue about Cosworth and their pricing? They are a great brand, and have done more to push automotive performance than all of the $5k turbo kit makers combined.

Some people want to continue this. Others just say it's overpriced and move on. These are the two types of people of people in this thread.

Cosworth have announced a change of direction with their tuning business. The British brand will offer its aftermarket tuning products as a validated package, suitable for warranty with existing manufacturers warranties. Several tuning firms already offer this option, however, Cosworth will take it to the next level, offering the upgrades under the standard factory warranty.

I think everyone is really interested in seeing what the Stage 2.0 and 3.0 will do.

Right now they are simply rebranding Nameless components. It's pretty much what everyone in the industry does e.g. Cusco supercharger, Cusco shorter final drive.

At least Cosworth's panel filter is not a K&N.

Furthermore, the branding is what allows them to justify the price variance. Note "them" refers to both the consumer and the reseller.

As for the price of a tune, I think you should get the best tune you can, and work with a local tuner with access to a dyno. I'm sure it will cost more than the cosworth tune, but I'm certain you'll be happier.

If you can't get a good local tuner with a dyno, or dyno time then consider getting a good off the shelf. Is Cosworth worth the $$ at that point, iono, ymmv.

Cosworth has no magic fairy dust. Products are products, horses are horses, and torques are torques. Plenty of people are suckers. Now if they were to rebuild an engine with upgraded internals and all that fun stuff, build a serious motor, that'd be something to talk about. This bolt-on set is just overpriced.

thats at the low end for for what japanese people pay for a full exhaust and ecu tune over here in japan. the shops that use ecutek charge just under $2000 for a ecu tune. sounds crazy to me, but many are happy to pay that price it seems. i still am waiting to meet with one of these dudes and see how our respective set ups compare on the straits.

So am I understanding this right, if I get a Cosworth package I will retain my factory warranty? If that is the case then the extra cost of the package is well worth it.

Thank you!!

This is the part that everyone seems to be glossing over.

I agree that the parts themselves are expensive. You can get a good exhaust and a tune for half the price for the Cosworth setup. But the part about the warranty (if this is true) is what makes this a potentially good deal.

Ok so lets just do a "I did it myself" comparison:

Nameless header (ceramic coated): $1500
Nameless axleback & overpipe combo (2.5inch with resonator): $1150
ECU tune (cable + lic + file): $825 (maybe add $300 more if you want it custom on a dyno?)
Air Filter: $50
Thermostat: $100

Total: $3625 (shelf tune) or $3925 (dyno tune)

Cosworth 1.3 retail: $5250

Difference: $1625 or $1325

Benefits? Cosworth keeps your factory warranty, Doing it yourself keeps $1325+ in your pocket for other stuff.

I can see choosing either way. To some upgrading under warranty is a major factor/benefit. To others its meaningless.
