Yep. Just because the airbag deployed does not mean the car is totaled. It will be interesting to see how they price out a 10 Series FR-S.

Make sure you add in the cost of getting a replacement keyfob and somehow disabling the one that was lost, in case it turns up in someone else's hands after the car is fixed.

When i bought my monogram, I was told the replacement keyfobs were something crazy like $585.

I'm betting on totaled. Good news is, you could probably buy a new 13 and buy back that one. So you have a whole parts car.

Anyways, I am seeking your opinions on whether or not my baby is totaled. I was accelerating from a green light and decided to change lanes. Upon looking forward from double checking my side mirrors, I saw traffic had abruptly stopped in front of me. I hit the brakes as hard as I could and came screeching all the way back into BMW, which was then pushed into an Audi (I tried to pick the two nicest cars on the road LOL ((JK)). It is a 2013 with every option that was possible (HIDs, LED daytime running lights, keyless entry, emblem lights up) and there are no aftermarket parts on the car. It has close to 15k miles.
Driver airbag did deploy and there were fluids leaking onto the road from under the hood immediately after the accident.

Sorry to have to report such an irresponsible accident to a car we all love. Luckily, everyone involved walked away without injury.

Much love and thanks

Id push to claim it as totaled, that way you get the value of the car before accident and sometimes they let you keep the totaled car too, Once your frame is bent or snapped severely the car is really never the same afterwards.

I have seen less damage on an FRS being claimed as totaled, it depends on the appraiser and insurance company.

What does that mean "push for it to be totaled"?

The insurance company and, ultimately, the repair shop determines if it is totalled. All State is very clear. In order for the car to be considered "totalled" the repairs need to exceed the value of the car.

Which is the tricky part. Because they may value the car at $20K or $28K. Much of this is going to be regional and whether or not the insurance company can price a 10 Series correctly.

But you can't insist on the car being totalled if there is $15-18K or so worth of damage. More than likely they are going to decide to repair it at that point since they are a company who wants to turn a profit if that is the case.

Hi everyone! I wanted to thank everyone for the comments and input concerning my car. I went to see it at the body shop yesterday and heard some not so great news... The total in damages is $12,100. There is no frame or main engine damage, so the only thing that would push it to being claimed as totaled would be if it was 80% or more of the cars retail value... That being said the damage would have had to be at least $12,800 to be considered totaled. Yes, $700 away... I'm not very happy about it. Strongly considered going and smashing in the front windshield so we could call it totaled. But obviously I didn't and there is nothing I can do. I am 18, btw. I am attaching a picture of him in the body shop all torn apart. Thanks again for all the opinions; I will attach pictures of the summary of cost in parts and labor later (I am not in town atm and am trying to update you via phone). I am not expected to have it back until at earliest June 23rd.

Did they include the glowing badge (10 series) in the estimate? That's probably not cheap to replace.

Edit: I dont know. Looks like frame damage to me. I'm no mechanic tho. Damage on the wheel arch and the A pillar. Any body shop will probably try to under estimate so they get the job rather than the car being totaled.

Edit 2: also the 10 series head lights have the LED DRL so make sure they got that as well... probably a different light/part than normal FR-S light.

sent via mobile.
