Totaled or not?!?!

Hi fellow FR-S babes,

I am new here so I apologize if I put this thread into the wrong part of the forum!

Anyways, I am seeking your opinions on whether or not my baby is totaled. I was accelerating from a green light and decided to change lanes. Upon looking forward from double checking my side mirrors, I saw traffic had abruptly stopped in front of me. I hit the brakes as hard as I could and came screeching all the way back into BMW, which was then pushed into an Audi (I tried to pick the two nicest cars on the road LOL ((JK)). It is a 2013 with every option that was possible (HIDs, LED daytime running lights, keyless entry, emblem lights up) and there are no aftermarket parts on the car. It has close to 15k miles.
Driver airbag did deploy and there were fluids leaking onto the road from under the hood immediately after the accident.

Sorry to have to report such an irresponsible accident to a car we all love. Luckily, everyone involved walked away without injury.

Much love and thanks
xoxox

Looks like a 10 series? looks like airbags? Any more pics? My vote is "yes" but I've seen similar get repared as well.

Honestly, I doubt anyone here can tell you what an adjuster or your insurance company can do just based on that picture. Best bet is to wait and see what they do. Glad everyone is okay, but anyone that tells you your car is totaled based on that one limited picture might be giving you false hope.

Yes, it is a 10 series. Yes, I was the only person in the car and my airbag deployed. Unfortunately, no other pictures. I was too shaken up to worry about taking any- my friend who came to help out was the one who snapped the one above. Thanks for the input!

Thank you for your opinion and advice. I actually work for Allstate! But this is my first accident and I love my car so much. This happened a few days ago, but the body shop lost my key fob and wasn't able to take a look at it until sometime this week when they received the spare key... The anticipation is just killing me, you know? Thanks again!

The thing about these cars is that the metal is supposed to wrinkle like that to keep the driver safe. It always looks worse than what it is, but at the same time, it always leads to more work for the body shop. Good luck on the car! Keep us updated.

I would be surprised if the car in that pic is not totaled. The front end now looks like a Scion IQ.

Do you want it to be totaled, or do you want the same car back? I'm not sure I would ever be able to trust the car again if the engine and drive train took a knock like that.

jwedeles 06-02-2014 12:49 PM

Good to know!! Thanks again, I will let everyone know what happens as soon as I know.

... sounds like a serious team at the body shop....

I am torn. This is my third car and by far my favorite. It is so different and so me. But yes, I am worried about driving it after such a hard hit (I was going about 40mph).

jwedeles 06-02-2014 12:54 PM

Hahaha, I know right. We think the tow truck guy is actually the one who lost it. But no one is sure. I am going in today to try and look around in the car for it and get the rest of my stuff out.

This scares me as I have been close to this same accident twice. On the later occasion I had to swerve to miss the car in front. I have adjusted my observation practices to include glances back out front during mirror and shoulder checks.

Good luck with your repairs/replace.

Airbags usually bump the cost up to "totaled" on sub-30k cars like these. It's a toss up at this point, just make sure the bodyshop you're at is one you can trust and reputable on customer service.

Glad to hear no injuries were sustained from all parties. Honestly, if I were in your position I would pray the car is totaled. Even if it were repairable the depreciated value of the car would be horrible. Your best bet is they total it out and you grab yourself another FR-S/BRZ or something different. Best of luck to you!
