I noticed rattling noise in my shifter also but then I figured out it was a loose shift knob. Tightened it up and it solved it for me

I was able to replicate the noise slightly by putting the car into 2nd while off and wiggling the gearstick back and fourth fast.
Then i went for a drive tried to see if it would make it in 3rd as well, and it was fine in 2nd and 3rd, No idea why but its not doing it anymore.

I do remember dropping a bolt down there while doing my vinyl work on my shifter surround so that might be it.

I'm going to get under the car next week, change the diff and tranny oil and have a look around.

When I replaced mine, the tech told me that there was a TSB for the rattle. My third one so far hasn't rattled, but I haven't even hit the 500 mile mark with it.

I have the exact same issue.

Try holding your reverse lockout and push it to the side and see if it happens. I find out it's the metal piece in the shift rod that the reverse lockout pin is screw into. At high rpm the metal piece is knocking on the side of the rod.

If you take off your reverse lockout you will know what I mean.

Mine rattled very slightly. The lockout had some play in it, causing vibrations at high RPM and a Fast and Furious-esque "snick" sound while shifting gears. After wrapping teflon tape and lubing with white lithium grease, the noises are all gone.

When I first saw the thread I thought the title said "Shitter rattle WOT..." I thought you had just gone to Chipotle or something

There is a TSB for this. Bring your car back to the dealer and they will take care of it. My dealer confirmed the noise a couple of days ago and has ordered the new shifter assembly. It is a revised part, I believe it is an entire new shifter assembly that they replace.

Would you happen to have a copy of the Subaru TSB so that I can show it to my dealer? The Scion TSB has (understandably) Scion part #s on it, so it doesn't help my Subaru dealer getting the right parts (it appears there is no TSB for that in Europe, yet).
