Honestly if you are to the point of moding your car and a driveshaft is on your list, noise should be the last worry. So many other parts before that to upgrade with better performance gains. ;-)

1: tires
2: tune
3: headers
4: ? Light weight battery?
5: drive shaft?

I wouldn't have thought the drive shaft to add that much noise...

I installed this earlier today, on my auto car, and that cup the video and all the instructions say won't fit, on the automatic, it does fit. I put mine on with the cup still on and no leaks after the first 100 miles...as far as noise goes, it is minute compares to the UEL header and Invidia N1 non-resonated exhaust.

How much power (in ftlbs torque... giving it a HP rating is meaningless) is this driveshaft rated for? That is, how many ftlbs of shear torque could it take before failing?

While you wait for an answer for this driveshaft. For your entertainment check this test done at Lotus F1 facility:
