Toyota 86 Black standard... Very familiar...

I myself haven't touched a thing on my car other than heated seat switch plaque, shorter aerial and TRD sound changer tube. My car performed quite well (only RGM Supercharged 86 beat me) at the RGM dyno day last year with zero mods or octane booster but the key factor in my opinion was mileage as I had the highest mileage out of all the 86's.

Toyota recommends a filter change at 60k km (madness in my opinion!!!) and thus I acquired a fresh airfilter at my cost at the 30k service and the difference was quite amazing in both power and fuel consumption. Now while I am a purist (and some may say stingy - including sav ) I am slightly interested in both the Cosworth DIF (not washable), AFE Pro Dry filter, and both Takeda and Blitz intakes... BRZ exhaust also on my to do list ...

But I think for $30 to $40 - putting a drop in filter is worth it,(As long as its the right one). It wont improve your track time, but it might boost your confidence and make you feel nice. Lol.

Has anyone in SA have feedback with drop in filters or CAI in SA (Gauteng)? Let us know

From the research I have done so far, the best hp/$$ (without going FI) is an Openflash Tablet (with tune) and Header from openflashtablet.
Then throw in the crawford billet power blocks.

So bang for buck looks to be the simple drop in K&N filter

Yes but then you're not getting that nice intake sound. The sound is worth at least another 10wkw

haha probably 10bkW? (bum kW)

Im sure an intake tube from perrin or Zeta should help with the sound?
Those K&N filters are only $42 on ebay and R225 for shipping. A steal!

I did the Blitz drop in. Didn't notice much other than a slightly different sound. You're not likely to notice 6 HP.

Since you're new here, you might not have seen the following option... I know you said you didn't want to go full FI... how about "partial" FI? I'm not an experienced auto mechanic, but I installed this kit 10 days ago - took me 3 hours (some have done it in under 2 hours):

http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=39719

There are more than 20 of them installed and running now.

Warning, though: It will give you significantly more than a little bit of power - about 70% increase in torque at 4000 rpm and about 50+/- HP peak... but not so much that you would need to upgrade injectors or clutch. Bang for the buck, I don't think you'll find a better upgrade. You can spend more than that on a header and exhaust that might net you 25+/- HP.

However, if your country is right hand drive, I'm not sure if that version of the kit is available yet.
