If Steeda is right, and they probably are, then the Mustang is dead to me.

And this explains the tight lips on the numbers. Idk who Ford thinks they are...do they really expect consumers to drop thousands on a car we barely know about? Shoot, if my boys over at mustang6g didn't raise some hell, we would probably still be guessing on the price.

2015 Ford Mustang is 200-300 lbs heavier than predecessor - report

Quote:
GT could weigh almost 4,000 lbs

According to a blog post from Steeda, the 2015 Ford Mustang has gained 200-300 lbs compared to the outgoing model.

Steeda is a company that produces and commercializes Mustang parts in the United States and in one of their recent blog posts they talked about development of the new pony car. They say weight is up by 200-300 lbs (91-136 kg) which is a worrying figure taking into account we are dealing with a sports car and we all know weight is the enemy.

Ford hasn't released final specifications for the 2015 Mustang even though the car was revealed back in December last year and it is set to go on sale this fall in United States and Europe. Some of that weight is justifiable by the new rear independent suspension but it will be a bit difficult to sell an almost 4,000 lbs Mustang GT. Maybe Ford's engineers worked their magic and managed somehow to offset the added weight.

As a reminder, the new Mustang will be available with a V6 3.7-liter developing at least 300 bhp (223 kW), a 4-cylinder 2.3-liter EcoBoost with more than 305 bhp (227 kW) and a larger V8 5.0-liter with at least 420 bhp (313 kW) in the GT derivative.

WTH. The new Mustang went from being 400 lbs lighter than the old model to now ~300 lbs heavier.

That's a net +700 lbs swing. Damn you Ford.

+1

I was considering an ecoboost premium... w/ x plan pricing ($26910) it's priced about the same as a BRZ lmt 6mt.

If the 15 EB mustang is close to 3000lbs, the maybe, but from what I've been reading lately, I'll probably be in the market for a BRZ instead.

People are already placing orders even tho' they don't have official MPG/Weight and HP numbers.

It's crazy... but I've never had any allegiances to a specific auto marque.

Dude, the chance of the Ecoboost Mustang being close to 3,000 lbs are about the same as your chance of flying it to the moon.

The old V6 was still 3500 lbs, if the car gains 2 - 300 lbs that would make it... More than 3,000 lbs.

Close to 4000lbs, not 3000lbs. Ford has seen the Camaro's success and is trying to copy it. Fuckers. I'll be sticking to the FR-S for the foreseeable future.

Don't remember which magazine it was.

In one of the articles where they drove an ecoboost Mustang with one of the engineers riding along, they reported that the engineer said don't expect the 4 cylinder version to be much lighter than the v6 one.

So it's probably ~3700 lbs for the Ecoboost 4 then.

I have hope the ecoboost will be around 3500lbs. Still not a featherweight though.

Yeah, but that's what I'm saying... It won't be. The OLD V6 was 3500 lbs, the OLD ONE, you know, BEFORE the car gained 200 - 300 lbs.

The Ecoboost motor/turbo/intercooler isn't going to be 200 lbs lighter than the V6. The V6 barely weighs 300 lbs, so unless the Ecoboost is made of helium I think you're SOL.
