larger panel gaps = more leniant tolerances = lower production costs

Having read a bit on Toyota Yaris forums, some people have a problem with being flush with wheels because a certain offset may flush one side be a little different on the other.

No problem, I originally took mine to the dealership only to hear that they don't see a tsb or tech tip on this issue and they have to send my car to a local bodyshop. Something about their techs don't know how to fix it. I decided to take care of it myself since I don't trust the body shops where I live, especially the one they wanted to send it to. Hope you can get yours to sit good, I can't stress enough how delicate the fenders are when you push on them. My driver side is slightly dented from pushing on it before. My advise is push closer to the edge near the door

This bolt is loose causing the fender to not stay flush with the door
For the passenger side loosen up this bolt, close the door and carefully push the fender to make it flush, then tighten the bolt.
The driver side is a little more difficult and requires two people, one to tighten the bolt and the other hold the fender in place. If you try to tighten the driver side bolt without holding the fender, the fender will bow out even more.
First loosen the bolt, then have the other person very carefully push on the fender to align it with the door.
Do not push the fender to hard or it will cause a dent ( they are very thin).
Have the person hold the fender in place while you tighten the bolt.
I did this fix last week and it's still flush.
Wow, this was so easy to fix. If I were to do this again, I'm pretty sure I can do it faster than filling up the gas full tank. Thanks for the info!!!

I checked this 2 years ago when this thread was created and my car was perfectly fine then. I just noticed this problem this morning and then remembered this thread. My passenger side was as bad as this picture.

No prob, it's too easy not worth the time at the dealer or the hassle

I just dropped my car off at Gresham Toyota to have a couple things, including the fenders, taken care of. They weren't too happy with the fact that my car was lowered and based on that their first reaction was to tell me they couldn't help me with the alignment issue. I left the car there and will wait to see what they decide.

I went to pick the car up and my service manager basically said they would not fix the fenders because the car was lowered and there was contact between the tire and inner fender lip. I walked him out to the car and showed him that the contact was SO minimal that although a little bit of paint had been worn off, the primer had not even been compromised. I asked, how could the rear of the fender get knocked almost 1/4" out of alignment from contact with the tire that hasn't even worn through the primer, and he had no answer, just said it wasn't his call. HE IS THE SERVICE MANAGER.

A week later they wanted me to bring the car back out so the regional Toyota rep could take a look, but I asked if the rep could come to me instead. Nope -- but the dealer emailed him photos and based on that the rep OK'ed the fix. The car went to a distant bodyshop (of course it must be inconvenient to me) and left there for two days, but got dropped off at my house this afternoon with fenders that line up to the doors again!

WAHOO! Problem solved, warranty repair complete.

Now if I can just get Scion to acknowledge my Bespoke v1.0 issues, but that is another story.

It takes only a minute or two to adjust it. I'm surprised the dealer spent more time trying to blame it on the car being dropped.

Yeah, but it was the principle of the matter. I paid for a brand new car and this was a valid defect. The harder they want to fight against fixing it the harder I was going to push against them. It's the last time I'm ever going to that dealer anyway.

Have a better picture of the bolt?

I'd like to know if ever I have to do this fix

It was a straight from the factory thing so if you don't have it now it won't develop later.

You know where to find all the tech bulletins right?
If not they are here: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=21868
But... please do me a favour?
Do not read those and then try to find symptoms that fit them! It needs to be the other way around. So if you have a symptom you can be better informed as to the action required to correct it.
Also, remember that not every car had each and every one of those issues and even if yours did there is a good chance the previous owner already had them fixed.
