I have taken meticulous care of my car, and it's garage kept and not driven in winter. Sure enough, slight rust is present, but only on the drivers side. I have barely ever used the passenger side door, it's been opened maybe 15 times since I've owned it, and no rust is present.

If you shut the door you can almost watch it happen.
Glad to hear another 86er stores their car for the winter. Many people thought it was a bad idea on my part in another thread. Nothing wrong with babying the car you love. What is your daily driver?

I think a lot of us store the car for the winter (I do).

No for me, but I didn't press too hard. If it's not an issue, I'm not going to worry about it. There's probably rust in a few other places I don't want to know about.

This is why you will find "excellent condition" examples 20 years from now. The 86 is my daily, but more often then not I usually end up driving it mostly on the weekends. I try to avoid the rain, don't drive it in snow or salty roads, and sometimes shy away from taking it to work because it's a hassle putting plastic seat cover on and changing shoes everyday.

For those mentioned times I use my parents old AWD 95 GMC Safari. Absolute beast of a vehicle, but terrible on gas. If I could I'd probably have a 7th gen Celica as a daily.

And I'm currently after a second gen MR2. That's my realistic dream car.

A little background, the car is just over a year old, and has seen one and half winters. I strongly suggest having a look and remember to clean under the seal when you wash your car.

Thanks info!! I'll keep an eye out for it. I live in southern California. Being so close to the sea, we get a lot of seasalt. I am OCD and wash my car at least once a week. I have not seen any rust so far.

I actually took my car in this past weekend for an oil change and tire rotation, and pointed out the rusting as well as the window runner (on the outside) that was beginning to crack. All will be replaced under warranty.

Took mine to the dealer the other day and showed them the rust line forming on the window. He took pics and emailed the regional rep.

Just saw this the other day, unbelievable. Even if replaced it'll do it again.
