As indicated from one of the other threads, I also had this issue and had my pillars replaced under warranty.
The cause is the window sill trim rubbing against the pillar and exposing bare metal to salt and moisture (for those who deal with snow or those near the ocean). Get them replaced under warranty and make sure to clean those areas regularly. Hopefully that should help.

Yes, but it is a design flaw so it is just going to keep doing it.
Unless we find a DIY method to prevent, such as the small piece of clear film in the other thread. It is getting frustrating that our cars have all of these known issues that only have DIY solutions and no fix from the factory. |

Touch wood, I've been through two winters with my FRS and I have zero issue regarding that part showing rust.

I tried to look at mine but it seems like my weather stripping is glued in place, I can't even push it down. How are you guys even seeing this?

It might. Haven't heard from anyone yet who's applied a film to this area. I always carefully apply a little spray on wax using a cue tip to this area every time I wash the car. If this area is kept protected it shouldn't rust.

I just wanted to share, I believe what causes this (obviously as stated above the trim rubbing on the metal) is the vibration from the door closing.
I have taken meticulous care of my car, and it's garage kept and not driven in winter. Sure enough, slight rust is present, but only on the drivers side. I have barely ever used the passenger side door, it's been opened maybe 15 times since I've owned it, and no rust is present. If you shut the door you can almost watch it happen. |
