Ordered new BRZ! Is FCPP dealer option any good?

Greetings fellow Canucks

I'm proud to psyched to say I ordered a new BRZ today, after finding a good price on easycardiscounts.com; really can't wait (and hope the GTA traffic gods will protect me on the way home). Anyhow, I was wondering if anyone had any experience with the dealer optioned 'First Canadian Protection Products' (FCPP) the dealer is offering.

https://www.firstcanadian.ca/chemical.htm#

Particularly the 'Undercoat Protection' - is this worth getting? Does it actually soften road noise by a noticeable amount?

I was planning on getting it Opti-Coated by a third party, would this be the better option than the paint protection offered? Is Rust proof worth getting third party as well?

Thanks again for any insight. Also, if Opti-coat is the way to go where's the best place to go in the GTA?

Sorry that I can't offer any input on your question, but I'd like to welcome you to the community! Look forward to seeing pics of the car!

Don't bother with dealer undercoat.. find someone local to you that does it.

Hamza @ getdetailed.ca does Opticoat Pro, very happy with how mine turned out. Consider getting clear bra as well. Right away if you can afford it.

Oo if the car is ordered and not delivered yet.. tell the dealer not to touch the car. As in do not remove the plastic that covers the paint and such for transit. Your detailer will do a better job of removing it and it may save you a few swirls and $$ if your detailer gets the car as soon as you take delivery.

I kind of figured Opticoat would be the way to go, and getdetailed.ca is definitely one of the available options I'm considering. But is undercoat/rust proofing the bottom of the car better done by the dealer or third party as well? Does the stuff ACTUALLY provide sound deadening as stated?

Any undercoating adds some sound deadening. I got my BRZ done by the dealer, they charge like $1000 for paint and rustproofing, and then they charge you every year for reapplication... May as well just go to krown, and get Opticoat done at your choice.

The BRZ is my first new car, if I was doing it again I would say no to the dealer stuff. Maybe the only one I would consider is if they offer wheel coverage against a damage.. but only if you aren't going to swap the wheels for aftermarket...

When I bought my BRZ a week ago, they said they don't do the rust undercoating anymore. They use the electronic rust protection module. (Willowdale Subaru)

My suggestion is to get clear bra from the windshield forward. I currently have a lot of paint chips on my car. Though, to be fair, I also have paint chips on both of my doors...

Also, I got both paint and rustproofing done to my car. It was a 1 time application and is guaranteed for 10 years. I did it mainly to ensure that any rust on my paint is going to be covered.

Furthermore, if you care about bumper holes for the plates, you should tell them now ^^

The rust module does absolutely nothing. You're paying your dealer $1500 or whatever ungodly amount they want for an insurance policy against rust.

I'm not saying 'no' to clear bra, but consider the colour of your paint, and that you have an aluminium hood. The plastic of the bumpers is black, so a chip on white will look the worst.

Also consider that most places won't have clear bra wider than about 30" so they don't do the full hood. Once the bra needs replacing, you'll have to get the same portions wrapped or you'll see a fade line from the unprotected portion.

Opti-coat + full hood, front fenders, front bumper, a-pillar, roof line, and in front of the rear wheels is going to set you back A LOT. Maybe as much as a repaint in 8-10 years, if you keep the car that long.

I'm going with weather tech mats for the inside, mud flaps to protect the sides, and just driving well back from trucks that throw stones. I may consider opti-coat+paint correction after 3-4 years when my personal skills with a hand polisher and a good paint sealant no longer hide the blemishes.

Yeah do not get the electronic box... snake oil thing..
I also told the dealer not to drill the front bumper for the license plate, I had my plate relocate kit shipped to the dealer.

Undercoat and rust protection is all a sham IMO, but FCPP is a good company to deal with in terms of extended warranty.

Read the fine print on the rust guarantee... I'm pretty sure it's only covered if it rusts completely through (ie hole) Surface rust/bubbling I don't think will be covered.

also, the rust proofing warranty is only valid IF you bring the car back to the dealer for annual inspection and you would have to pay for them to retouch it. I learned the hard way, never again!

It's true, it covers perforation starting from inside the component.
