Unless you are running 100% speed density, I think you are going to be disappointed when you install that white spring. I think you guys are worrying too much about what you think is compressor surge and not enough about following the manufacturer of your BOV's advice. The FA20 is more than capable of pulling down over -20 in/hg. With that being said the number can vary depending on where you are pulling that vacuum/boost source from.

I am running a hybrid MAF/SD tune. Uses MAF untill it maxes out the V.

If my BOV is pre-MAF it wouldn't hurt to put in a softer spring right? The BOV may open at idle and during high vac situations but as soon as the vac gets more positive, the BOV spring should shut the BOV and boost can build.

I want to get rid of this horrible flutter I am getting at the GT3076 compressor during low boost lift-offs. Sounds great at high boost lift-offs but no great otherwise.

If the BOV is far enough forward that it's opening/closing in high vacuum situations won't mess with the flow of the air across the MAF sensor, then you should be fine as the MAF will still meter the air properly.

I put an 8psi spring in mine and it was open at idle. I had low speed drivability issues and stalling. Put an 10psi one back in and it drives OK but it still flutters

Where is your BOV in relation to the MAF? pre-MAF? post-MAF? 1 foot away from MAF? 2 feet? 3 feet?

Is it the standard Full Blown kit location?

That is strange that it would cause driveability problems. I am guessing turbulence from being too close to the MAF?

There is always this for $300: http://www.turbosmartdirect.com/Prod...BOV-BLACK.html

Damn I can't see it coming down to that.

When I bought my kit, it was a kit already put on another BRZ. It came with the pre-installed brown spring. Even though I am not 100% certain what my vacuum is, it doesn't hurt to try a softer spring. Otherwise I have a useless BOV, it never releases. Not good for the turbo to have back pressure, so its worth a shot changing the spring out.

We have run more than a few cars with no BOV over the years. Compressor surge is over rated IMHO.

What most of you are experiencing is normal. Basically the theory to setting up a BOV is to have it fight the wastegate until the last possible second. Which will cause a slight surge (nothing to worry about) at full boost shifts/off throttle events and will cause a very light "surge" at less than peak boost during shifts/off throttle events. This is normal.

You want a "cough" at WOT and a light/short turkey gobble/quail call at less than WOT.

I'd rather not have the turkey at all. It's a very unattractive / annoying sound.

If the BOV is being held shut by the boost line to it + spring then I see no other reason why I can't use, say a 10inHG spring other than the valve being open during idle and cruise.

If your BOV doesn't open up at all when you shift, then there is something wrong with it.
