Hey guys, I've a black BRZ and I plan on plastidipping the stockies until I save up for some new shoes. Looking for something somewhat bold. I'll have light tints within the next month, and am looking for a good color. Any suggestions? I see the silver and really had never even thought of that-looks really good! The matte black wheels I had originally wanted seems a bit too boring. I've ordered a black/red badge overlay, so following a theme like that would be cool as an alternative too (maybe with some color lugnuts too). I won't be rattlecanning, I'll be getting it done by a shop near by. Sorry for the long post, but please help me choose a color/combination!

Just finished dipping my wheels last night. Thanks for all the tips on getting this done correctly. I think they turned out well.

Edit: I decided to add few more copper on top of what I had.
This time, picture taken by DSLR lol.
I love the color! That is exactly the copper color I am looking to get for my wheels!

I hope you are willing to help me out on exactly what you did, because I did not find anything that matches my wishes as much as you painted your rims.

So you used these Plasti Dips:
3-4 layers Black (Standard) (Link)
2-3 layers Copper Metalizer Enhancer (Link)
2-3 layers Smoke (Link)
x layers Copper Metalizer Enhancer again
?

last layer was very light single coat.

I had to use some copper metalizer and smoked back and forth to get the color tone exactly what I want.

You really have to pay attention when you are using one of those enhancer colors. Lol

Sounds pretty expensive.
Also if the tires get changed, or you loose the PlastiDip in an other way, you'll have to start all over again?

I'm not sure yet... maybe painting the wheels would be the better solution? But to find the perfect color again, won't be easy...

Maybe I will try it on two wheels and put them on one side of the car for some time...

Well, it would be like 70 bucks, and should have plenty left over to redo if needed. From my experience, the only way your gonna "lose" the dip is by pulling it off, or using purple power to clean them.

How much cans would I need? We have an other mixture over here in germany, because they had do leave out some toxic stuff to sell it here.

So I need 4 Cans for 4 rims to paint them pure black (as seen, they are white now) - 50€
And then about 2 copper metalizer - 40€
And then about 2 smoke - 40€

which is 130€ (177$)

I don't know about the 4 cans copper/smoke, because it's hard to tell how much of a can is needed to make one layer.

4 cans for 4 wheels is way over kill. We used 2.5 cans for 4 wheels, that was 6 coats on each wheel. Peeled them last week and it peeled as 1 full sheet. We used red with glossifier. 4 coats of red, 2 coats glossifier. Came out completely covered with a deep red color. (This was on a chrome rim btw).

Ah meh, we painted my white wheels black behind the rims and AFAIK we used more than one can for this on all four rims.

But if the weather is getting better over here, I guess I just buy the stuff and try it on two rims. If I use more than the half, I can buy another set... shipping is for free most of times, anyways.

Thanks for your help so far. Maybe I think of this thread when I'm done (sometime) and post some pictures. (Although I know this is a GT-86/BRZ/FR-S forum, the rims are kind of related )

I think you misread...we used two and a half cans(2 reds, half of a gloss) we had purchased 4 reds and 2 gloss. Only used two and half red and half or a gloss.

I think I didn't. We painted pure black and used more than one can only for the back sides. So, if we painted the front sides, too, we would have used way more than only two cans for all four rims to get them fully black. (Also they are bundled into 4 cans for 4 wheels here in germany. 4x400ml - [ame="http://www.amazon.de/Plasti-Dip-61001103-Felgenfolie-schwarz/dp/B007NIWPKU/"]Plasti Dip 61001103 Felgenfolie Set 4 x 400 ml matt, schwarz: Amazon.de: Auto[/ame] )
