It really comes down to this simple concept: Scion's historically have sold for their exact MSRP(not counting dealer add-ons), only because they aren't highly sought after. If they did attempt to markup the current Scion models, nobody would buy them because there isn't a shortage of them to buy. Limited editions and limited availability throw all that out the window of course. It doesn't matter what country you live in, it comes down to supply and demand. Low supply and high demand = markups. Always has and always will. That's the definition and practice of a free market. Only a complete nincompoop dealer would sell their one and only FR-S a month at MSRP when they are turning away numerous other buyers for no other reason than not having a vehicle to sell. To do otherwise would be the definition of nincompoopery. |

Scion dealers may not get you on going over MSRP, but you should watch out for high "Documentation Fees". I would compare the dealers' doc fees before you go. If they advertise them, you will pay for them due to the "true pricing".

When I was poking around for tC's I noticed a varying range in doc fees from $150-$400! It was bad enough that you are forced to pay ALL of the difference between invoice and MSRP, and now we're forced to pay the absurd and useless doc fee too with no haggling possible? Well, that means the $1300 difference between the BRZ and FR-S just shrank by several hundred dollars. |

During our last supper I asked Jack Hollis about what to do if we had "issues" with the dealer, the sub text of that being "What happens if the Scion dealer tacks on a 'Market Adjustment' because that is what I am afraid of. Jack's response was to try and work out the "issue" with the dealer first before contacting Scion. Seeing what is apparently happening with some Subaru dealers jacking the price up $2k-3k, I will NOT be pleased about any markup over MSRP. To me the "No haggle price" IS MSRP. Those fellow First 86'ers please keep us informed about your "buying experience".

I have contacted at least 6 Scion dealers and their story is consistent. As long as they sell for the advertised price there is no problem, price can be over or under MSRP. Regarding the FR-S there is pressure from Scion corporate that everyone sell at MSRP initially and yes you can negotiate getting freebie accessories that will reduce your "true price". In other words "Pure Price" is a marketing gimmick where the public thinks it favors them but in reality it favors the dealer.

Actually what Jack said about pricing was "dealerships can do whatever they want." If Scion were to force dealers to sell for a specific price, that would be price fixing, and that would be illegal.

Just got this off the Scion website: Pure Price - a Definition Pure Price means that the dealer price you see posted - in an ad, on the dealer's website, or on a menu display board in the dealership - is the price you will pay. This includes vehicles, accessories, and even finance and insurance products. So Brett is right. But sounds a little slimy because there is no mention of MSRP. ================================================== Scion Pure PriceTM What Does This Mean? Why Haggle? Scion is unique because both the products and buying process are designed to create a whole new culture that will change the consumer's car buying experience. At Scion we respect your time by creating a simple, straightforward, easy to understand approach called "Pure Price". Scion's "Pure Price" purchase experience means no haggle, no hassle. The price you pay for all products and services offered equals the dealership's posted and advertised price. Price menus are clearly posted in the dealership showroom for all products and services. Dealers are free to set their own prices.
