Subaru owners are doing the same thing to justify paying more. Both parties doing this need to STFU and just go enjoy their cars. Superficial shit only matters if you have something to prove.

I was exaggerating on purpose there with the Ferrari/Lambo. Here are some more realistic examples. What if Chevy brought the Camaro out as a Saturn Camaro. Or instead of a Dodge Viper it became the Eagle Viper. Or the example above with the Mercury Mustang. Just doesn't fit well with the history of the car and what enthusiasts envisioned. This is meant as the spiritual successor to the AE86. Not sure why Toyota couldn't bring over the 86/GT-86. Well actually we do know the answer; it is a last minute hail mary attempt to save Scion from going under. |

This. It just comes down to personal taste, there is no right or wrong here. I don't know why people care so much which car other people want to buy.

Well, when you build any Scion on their website with Navigation it's $2000. Also, Scion doesn't seem to include Sirius XM with it (which almost every other car manufacturer does) and that's another $600!

I hear what many of you are saying and to some degree I agree with you and I work for Toyota. The whole point behind starting Scion was to have a Toyota branded company that focused on the younger audience, in terms of styling, pricing, etc. I'm not sure that the FR-S/GT86 even falls into that. One area I think Toyota fails at is they are way too conservative when it comes to their styling and such. This is the first time they have taken a chance and then they put it under Scion. I'm glad we have the car available, but I do wish they had launched it under Toyota. It's had to keep the Toyota racing heritage alive when there aren't any to race.

Dave-ROR was talking headlights. I've been staring at those pics for a bit. I don't think there are gap issues with swapping. I think it's just plastic that fits differently into the same hole. It wouldn't make sense to manufacture two completely different front bumper parts. The majority of the shape looks the same. The difference seems to be in the finer details/accessories for the front bumper.
It certainly makes more financial sense for the two companies to handle it this way. They can source one base part, and then apply the small pieces for each companies "unique branding traits." |

![]() Well, I've sat in the Mazda CX-7 with similar cloth material, and I personally don't like it, I don't hate it, but prefer Leather/Alcantara imho, and The Premium ones look longer lasting to me

I agree, and I'm not knocking the Scion folks for purchasing the car and saying that my junk is bigger because I'm buying the Subaru... Toyota FAILED getting my money by putting the Scion badge on it. I'd probably be buying or had seriously considered the Toyota IF it had the Toyota badge. The knocks are meant to go to Toyota for a horrible marketing choice trying to save their original bad choice in creating a new name plate and not the Scion buyers themselves! You'd think these big companies would learn from the whole 1980's COKE fiasco..

It really isn't a given that because a seat material is more expensive it will be the better/more desirable/more appropriate choice. |

I'm a Subaru guy. I own 3. I like the company, their design philosophy, and the quality of their cars.
That said, I originally was thinking of the FR-S since it looked like it would be the lighter car (it is) and I liked the look in pictures better. I didn't care that it had Scion badges on it, because I knew that under the skin it would have the engineering and quality that I expect from Subaru. Now since then, I've seen the two in person and found the FR-S front end lacking, and the BRZ better looking. I've also come to my senses and realized that, hey, I'm buying this for a DD and not as a points-contender for AutoX, so the extra options (heated seats FTW) are something I want. So I have an order in for a Limited BRZ. I don't care that much about badges, just the car they're stuck to. I have 3 Subarus because for each one, a Subaru met my criteria. ..as the BRZ does now. |
