Well, the cotter pin came out in about 15 seconds and I just spent 20 minutes trying to remove that ^%&*%*&*&%!! spring. I am now irritated in the way that only a car can provide. Going to have to get a robogrip from work I guess

After removing the pin I depressed the clutch pedal and just gave the top of the spring a few good jabs with a punch. It came off super easy.

Besides making the clutch easier are there any actual uses to this spring? Does taking it out increase any wear or have any negative effects to speak of? Started on old school Toyota clutches and hate the new feel. Just wondering if there are any negatives to taking this out.

I would think that, if anything, removing it would actually cause less wear, as there is no longer any extra pressure always acting (slightly) upon the clutch pedal.

Just my guess, of course. I'm just a guy, and it's been a while since I last spent the night at a Holiday Inn Express.

Not easy to see but this is what the metal brackets blocking the clutch assembly looks like on a RHD.

I just did this mod today and adjusted the pedal to 1-2mm above the brake. This is a MUST DO mod.

I'm sorry to say, but that is going to be a PITA. Why in the hell would they do that?

You might need one of these

But for reference, I did it with channel locks. To find out what worked, I pushed away and pulled the spring/perch towards me, as well as wiggled it sideways to try and get it loose.

just did it a few minutes ago. I tried the ziptie idea, but didn't work out so well. Between the spring pressure, the grease all over the spring, and the amount of coils open ~1-2, my 5 medium zipties all either broke, or slipped. But what really worked well, was once I had the pin out, I used a pair of channel lock pliers, with the pedal up I just clamped the top and bottom spring pearches in the jaws, then pressed the pedal to the floor with my other hand, let go with the pliers and it shot right out. If I like it I'll be trying to remove the other perch.

and yeah, it sucked bad enough on mine, RHD looks like a dog in heat.

I think the zip tie idea was for putting the spring back in.

I am curious to try this hen I first got the car I kept stalling all over the place cuz it felt so soft and I couldnt tell where the clutch bite was but now after driving for 2 months more or less I've gotten used to it and am now able to press the clutch and shift between all gears in less than a minute with no issues even in stop n go traffic I havent had any issues dunno if my left foot just adapted or I have some kinda placebo effect on me

You adapted. Realistically, I could have chosen to adapt but I knew about this head of time and had some time to kill after dropping off the check for the car, so out it came and I instantly had no trouble shifting smooth.

true, but if it works to put it back in, why not to take it out? Well I found out, the problem turns out to be access to more than just two coils. With it sitting in front of me I should be able to get zip ties around 4 coils, but in the car, with the pearches in the way, I could only get 2, which just wasn't enough to compress the spring when the pedal was pushed in.

I really haven't had a chance to drive with it (did it on break at work), but just from sitting in the car and feeling it, I think the issue is the progressive rate of the spring. The pedal is not much different near the floor between helper spring and no helper spring, but up top it is a lot harder to get started without the helper spring. Now that it is out, It feels like the same force is needed to push the pedal all through the range, insted of light at the top progressing to heavy at the bottom. Plus now I just found out the disengagement point is really close to the floor.
