sounds like a worn bushing on the pedal or maybe the return spring.

It sometimes does it at high revs in low gears without even touching the clutch pedal

I'd have to guess it's the throwout bearing. Those can make all kinds of noises as they fail or get dirty.

This was happening to me for a while until I really started to think of the situation. Basically if I'm not on the throttle at all when I depress the clutch there is no 'honk' noise. This leads me to believe that its definitely clutch related

It happens when I am taking my foot off of the clutch and the gas pedal is being pressed - the engagement point. Typically happens when I'm shifting from 3rd to 4th and 5th. Sound doesn't happen when the car is first started or when it's deathly cold outside. I hear the honking noise at least 80% of the time. It's definitely the clutch causing the honking noise.

I'm going to the dealer tomorrow. I'll update when I find out what they say.

Toyota figured out the problem. It was the master cylinder on the clutch. They replaced it and I haven't heard the noise. They took out a brand new FR-S and it made the same noise, but not as loud. I'm thinking it's a design flaw in the master cylinder that needs to be addressed by Toyobaru.

We wanted growling exhausts and got chirping fuel pumps and honking clutch cylinders. Lovely.

Must have moar cricket powaahh~!

Actually, I stopped hearing the crickets when I switched to Chevron fuel. As for the honking clutch, I wonder if it's only a problem for newer models? I have over 22K miles on my FRS and I've never had it honk at me. I don't drive with the stereo on either so I'm pretty sure I would've noticed.

I was about to post a guess that it was the master cylinder if it was coming from the left side of the engine bay. The horn sound would be caused by something sticking, unsticking, sticking, unsticking (like when a hinge creaks) at a very high rate of speed.

I have over 10k miles on my Subaru BRZ and have yet to hear this sound.
