86 Sidemarker Question

Hey Guys!

I was wondering, for those with the 86, what color LED are the sidemarkers? I know they're clear housing but are they white or amber lights inside? The FR-S itself have amber lights with orange housing.

Thanks!

I don't have one, but my RC model from Tamiya has clear lenses with a yellow bulb. When it comes to scale, Tamiya is the boss.

the 86 and the brz in japan have clear 3d style lenses with amber Halogen bulbs while the frs and brz in north america have amber flat style lenses with clear Halogen bulbs. no LEDs are used.

hope this helps @Justinyuen16

I am considering replacing my amber sidemarkers on my Monogram with the clear ones. Does it look weird during the day to see the amber bulb through the clear sidemarker?

during the day they wouldn't light up unless your park lights or headlights were turned on. the colour looks dull during the day but its to be expected in sunlight.

Yah if you go with LEDs than they are white colored when not on, instead of a orange glass bulb.

That sounds great. Would I need to add anything to the wiring so the change from the standard bulb to LED bulb doesn't mess up? Any recommendations on places to buy the sidemarkers and bulbs? Diode Dynamics?

Why does everyone have the same damn avatar??? It's f***ing annoying.

But ya, most of the the Helixes leak. I fixed my driver side, then my passenger side started acting up.

No changes required, since its not a bulb that "blinks" (like hyper-blinking turn signal issue). I have the same type LED bulb in amber for sidemarkers, and bright-white for my license-plate and trunk. My bulbs are from Vicious LED, no issues so far, but I've heard good things about Diode Dynamics too.

Helix are JDM-style, meaning they are knockoffs/replicas essentially of the Toyota JDM part. They also come in colors like smoked not available by Toyota.

A vendor on here had a recall for them so I would assume the leak issues were fixed if they were taking back the old ones and sending new ones.
