I examined my car. The shifter rod that goes into the transmission that runs parallel to the drive shaft that plugs into the shifter rod is too low. Under hard breaking and hard speed bumps it rubs with the drive shaft joint.

In summary the TRD quick shifter isn't designed properly. I uninstalled my TRD quick shifter. I never installed the rear bushing/brace as I already had the Perrin one, which has nothing to do with it rubbing for those that may ask as it's not directly on the shift/trans rod.

Having the aluminum drive shaft that I sold made the issue even worse as the shaft joint was thicker. I sold my drive shaft because I thought it was good to go with the stock shaft, but after my tests it isn't when breaking hard in 2nd gear. Probably in 4th as well but I didn't go fast enough to do such a test but I definitely would have found out when the next track day came.

There's nothing wrong with the part aside from that it's not fully compatible and the system designed poorly. No wonder most dealers list it as discontinued already.

Selling my TRD shifter for $120 shipped (to US, international pays extra shipping), which is cheaper than you can buy it for anywhere.

I am running stock everything (except for fluids) tracked my car the other day with speeds about 110mph braking hard to like 15 and I have 0 issues. I would ensure install is correct

Would it clear the carbon fiber drive shaft, as it has a smaller diameter than the aluminum one?

I have Cusco engine, Kartboy trans, and Whiteline diff mounts, and occasionally get knocking on speed bumps with the stock driveshaft. Haven't noticed it on track though.

I have stock engine mounts, stock drive shaft, None of the other stuff I have effects the height of the position of the drive shaft nor the shift rod. I have the Whiteline diff mounts but they don't change the location of the diff. It in theory would make it move even less and show less of a problem. Same with my Whiteline trans bushing. Trans bushing doesn't change height only reduce slop and movement.

It's the joint knuckle not the cylinder part of the shaft that rubs. I doubt the knuckle/joint is any smaller but we'd need someone to chime in that has the carbon shaft to measure the diameter of the joint/knuckle part or just brake super hard when in 2nd gear from a decent speed.

I have a feeling the slop in the driveline makes it interfere, similar to how some who have headers were having issues where the overpipe was hitting the subframe. Just a theory.

Install was definitely correct. It only happened in 2nd gear. I tried 1st and 3rd with super hard braking at speed and it didn't happen. I put the car into gear with it jacked up and 2nd gear is definitely super close to the drive shaft joint. Maybe 1mm type of close! Other gears had a little more room/distance from the joint of the shaft.

Good god, the timing of it all

I've read and searched for hours. There are issues on every single short shifter out there on the market. Until Bruno posted a week or two back, I didn't hear ANYTHING bad (as far as rattling/noise) about the TRD quickshifter.

Guess you didn't see the second video I posted lol. Tightened up the adapter bolt and all is well. I would definitely advise using loctite so you don't have any issues down the road, but I've got 0 problems with mine. Loving every minute of it! No rattles, no rubbing under hard braking, ZERO slop, nothing but nice, crisp shifts. Really have nothing but good things to say about the TRD Quickshifter.

No, I did... heh. That's why I ordered one. It should be coming in today.

So bottom line. Is this shifter worth getting or is kartboy the better short shifter?

I've heard so many complaints about the Kartboy rattles that I took it off my list.

Another one is the BPS short shifter, which I loved the look of. TWM is an expensive option.

Still, the latter two have rattle issues as well. Sometimes not until higher RPMs. Stock shift knobs/reverse lockouts or aftermarket... rattles.

Not a single rattle reported on the TRD... except that rubbing issue. Only one person who had the issue though.

I've got no rubs, no rattles, no noises at all. Also, for people who are between shifters, few things to keep in mind:
1. Toyota/Subaru cannot void your warantee with the TRD Quickshifter. Not sure they would with any other short shifter, but why take the chance?
2. The other shifters you guys are comparing to (Kartboy/BPS/TWM/etc) are +$100 more expensive than this.
3. Throws are actually shorter in the TRD
