The car weighs a lot more with a passenger. I took the passenger and rear seats out of my FR-S because I don't want anyone to ride with me. I can barely beat a Toyota Sienna in a race now!

Well gee, if the 2015's going to be so nice you ought to be able to get a fat discount on the 2014, right? That'd be my logic. See what the dealer thinks. They probably don't agree. It is afterall a limited production exotic car or somesuch.

I got the regular 14 at the start of Dec when most dealers still had tons of 13's on there lot. I had no idea a "Monogram" was even a thing. Thought that was just the BRZ Limited.
The headlights and dual climate control (which I doubt I would EVER really use, but at least it looks super nice) are the only reasons I would get it. Leather seats are meh and I like having a key to turn in my car than a push to start button, sorry but those are lame. If it was a grand more than the regular 14 I wouldnt have got it even if I knew about it. With that extra grand I could just buy aftermarket headlights which are really the only worthwhile upgrade. |

Local dealer just got a few Monograms in, including a Hot Lava. So much for talk of "the last one"...

Slightly off topic but interisting all the same.... in France you don't get the choice, the GT86 sold here seems to be the monogram version (rear spoiler, heated seats, touchscreen radio and nav system, auto A/C, electric fold mirrors, frameless inside mirror, underpanels and double carpets, trunk cover trim, led day lights, ....)
I've always found strange these kind of différences. The French Celica had a totally different intake than the US) |

You'd be surprised. Some dealers are giving HUGE breaks, but some of these dealers are just out of touch with reality. They're not giving a break on either Scion or Subaru. I got a quote for a 2013 Premium Auto for like hundreds less than a 2014 Limited from Clint. What a joke.

As of today (5-22-14) there are 237 Monograms with manual transmission and 295 with automatic transmission still for sale in the US. (According to Cars.com.)

And it looks like that's an underestimate. I've found a few at random dealers that aren't listed on Cars.com. Some are listed on auto trader but not cars, and some aren't listed on either. FR-S inventory seems to sit for a while at a lot of dealers, particularly in the colder parts of the US. BRZ's seem to move a little faster.

For sure - For example, the ones I posted don't show up on any of the "inventory search" sites...

Get the 2015. I personally like to get the lightest car possible because I can live without those kinda features. Came from riding 90s JDMs so no luxury for me.
Also the 2015 has better suspension + aero so if you can wait a little, it's just better to get the latest possible version. The car matures every year and they might have done some under the hood stuff to it that they don't mention to improve reliability and whatnot. |

Monogram all the way! Typically, I'm not the dude to pay more for extras and would rather just have the base model to build on but with my BRZ I really appreciate the nicer seats, HID headlights and the other little features.

Here's why I spent the extra money on the Monogram:
I saw the base model and loved the way it looked. I drove the base model and loved the way it felt. I noticed that certain "basic luxuries" that have made their way into what seems like every new car on the market were missing, like steering wheel controls, back up camera, etc. I know this is not a luxury car, because racecar, etc., but this was my first new car in 12 years, and I wanted to have at least a little bit of luxury in a brand new car. I saw the feature list of the Monogram series and realized that those extras made me feel like it was more of a special car for me, so I put down a deposit and ordered on in late January. I have been driving it for about 1.5 months now, and I am so glad I paid extra for the Monogram. I love that I do not see many of the twins around town, and I have not seen another Monogram at all. I love the keyless entry and push button start. I love the auto climate control, especially on longer drives where the outside temps/sunlight change. I love the HID headlamps with the LED DRLs, especially after doing the mod to keep the LEDs on with the HIDs. I love the way the seats look and feel. I liked the seats in the base model when I first saw them, but when I saw the Monogram seats I knew I liked them more than the base seats. I have not used the seat heaters, and will probably rarely, if ever, use them, as it doesn't get that cold around here, I keep the car in the garage, and I typically stay warm/hot while driving. If there had been a factory option for vented/cooled seats, I would have bought it. ![]() Now, for the 2015 options... I would like to have the sharkfin antenna, or something similar, but the standard one doesn't bother me enough to spend the money on a replacement. I don't track or autox or race or whatever, so the slight differences in the suspension would probably be lost on me. I enjoy driving her through the twisty mountain roads, even planning a Tail of the Dragon trip soon, but so far I have not had moments where I was disappointed in the Monogram's handling or suspension. Edit: I would also like the larger exhaust tips, but this can be added to the earlier models for under $100. tl;dr - Monogram FTW Last edited by Chattanooga FR-S; 05-23-2014 at 05:04 PM. |
