Anybody else sick and tired of micro transactions? It's almost as if some games make in-game currency impossible to earn without relentless hours of farming unless you spend real money to buy fake money.

Depends, some games it makes sense, other games it's greedy BS. What specific titles you're referring to? Hating on MT's altogether isn't fair because some games are built around that type of sales model and work just fine.

For example NBA2K Series: MyCareer mode. Pretty self explanatory you try to make it with a career in the NBA. However, the pricing is not consistent at all. Receiving a max contract earns you 500 VC (virtual credit) over a span of 5 years. You can basically only earn a max contract if you're an elite player. You cannot become an elite player without upgrading your stats. Upgrading 1 stat point can cost as much as 100-200 VC. They do give you an option to purchase more VC using real money though. Counter-Strike GO: They give away free crates and drop boxes allowing you to unlock skins and gun attachments, however, you have to buy a key using real money in order to open these crates. There are many other examples I can't think of at the moment, but I hope you get where I'm going. |

I don't mind micro transactions. I do not like "Pay to Win" games.

Micro Transactions are what's seriously slowing 'mobile gaming', another reason why I like Nintendo although they're dipping their toes in with map packs and such.

Mokspeed, yeah i definitely see what you're saying. Paying for a full release title ($50-60) it should be a given that you'll be given a complete game experience, including the ability to competitively to progress through the game at an enjoyable rate, whatever that entails. However when they push you to make cash purchases simply to stay competitive, that's "pay to win".
The CS:GO thing sounds like it's essentially cosmetic items, but there's no pay to win element (unless some of those gun attachments are actually different, i.e. overpowered and not balanced). The flaw here is that they're dangling carrots right in your face tempting you to get that hot new item. Free to play games need to balance the grind/buy elements carefully. Warframe and Hawken are both games that are doing a great job at the F2P/MT market, Warframe is available on PS4, but Hawken is PC only. Warframe makes everything in the game accessible in one way or another, but they make getting there rewarding. Sure you could buy that hot new weapon or Warframe suit, but you can also hunt down the parts and resources and built it yourself. Occasionally they have special events that last only a few days where unique weapons or badges are rewarded, and those things must be earned, they cannot be bought/sold. EVE Online had a massive player upheaval and thousands of accounts were cancelled when an internal company newsletter was leaked which contained a discussion piece written from the pro-MT point of view. It just happened to be written by the CEO or President, can't remember... Players saw a huge red flag and protested. This also came on the coattails of a forced, unfinished expansion pushing the game into odd directions that it wasn't ready for yet, and made most players feel like CCP was getting pushy and greedy. Well, after the players demonstrated (even in-game), there were some layoffs at CCP, and the entire studio shifted and refocused on what the players wanted, promising MT was for cosmetic items only. And that's where it stands now. |

I only support MT's if they're not required, but can be used to advance more quickly through a game. For people like me who like gaming, but don't have the time we used to and just want to get on with the game.
I will admit that I've spent some real money taking shortcuts instead of spending hours gathering resources. Any multiplayer game where someone can spend real money to get an advantage over other players is a complete scam. Also why I dont play many MP games. I'm pretty sure I've only ever used MT's for single player games.

You ought to give it another shot if you haven't. The removal of the auction house, the new game modes, and all of the changes that were made have made for a much, much better experience.

Somewhat related...
9 different editions of Watch Dogs... seriously. Looks like PC and PlayStation get the most content. Xbox gets the short stick, however, as far as I can tell from what I have been reading, they will lose the White Hat Pack. This whole, "exclusive to 'insert platform here'" is ridiculous. Sadly, I am a sucker for this, which is part of the reason why I own every console from within the last 10 years, aside from the Wii U /embarrassed |

Bonus guns and crap is cool, but if you really need them you can usually buy them. I'd rather save my money for real DLC. It's really just a sales tactic to get people to not only pre-order the game, but also buy new instead of used. I think I'm getting the standard X1 edition, I pre-ordered so I guess I'll get whatever that includes.

I wish, mine died many years ago even though I still have it. Had so many burned games back in the day. One of my favorite consoles of all times despite the fact I contributed to it's demise via piracy.
