So you are claiming that for years now both Subaru and Toyota have been using the wrong type of tranny oil? That sounds pretty ridiculous on the face of it. It would leave them wide open to liability claims in the event of failures.

The GL-5 requirement is specific to the Aisin transmission in the 86, which is also used by Lexus, among others. So I wouldn't say they've been doing this for "years." They chose to use the same fluid as all of their other cars, and missed the mark on this one. So who knows whether it was an oversight or they intentionally ignored the Lexus TSB in a dice rolling, cost saving measure.

That's like telling people to use Motul 300V for daily driving, then trash the cat.

GL3 and GL5 compositions are totally different (GL5 have additives that could be bad for a tranny with a construction that uses metal which is spec for GL3). Also, the RA62 manual transmission is not even the same design as the TL70 manual transmission.

**UPDATE**

Went back to Scion and drove a different 6MT and it was completely different.
Not as solid/quiet as the BRZ, but much less "rental car" than the previous one. Same year, etc.
The sales guy said he drove the silver one I drove last time after I left and he's having service look at it and possibly adjust the clutch.

The, I drove the Innovate Stage II Intercooled 6AT.
The AT obviously has longer gears, etc, and that takes away from acceleration a bit, etc. Also, it was hot and I had the AC on, etc.
The car has a FIVE:AD body kit, wheels, springs, TRD cat-back and stickier Yokos on it.

Normal driving seemed fine, a touch of blower whine, a little burble from the cat-back, and light "surging" at low revs in a higher gear.
0-? acceleration was vastly improved over even the 6MT cars I've driven, though didn't feel as fast as say a V8 Mustang.
Corners were a dream with the suspension (which had less initial impact than stock, but a little less roll as well), wheels and tires, and I was able to do one controlled drift through a nice left-hander.
Power delivery was silky smooth and predictable, though again, not as "at-will drift" as a V8 would be.

My question is; does anyone know how well the 6AT will hold up to the Innovate Stage II Intercooled kit? I have joint issues, including my clutch ankle, and may really need to consider the 6AT for long-term ownership.

I'm really looking at ordering a 2015 BRZ Limited (SWP) 6AT and adding minor exhaust (UEL Headers, Over-pipe, Cat-back), significant suspension/brake upgrades, wheels and tires (but not overly wide/sticky), and minor body upgrades (ChargeSpeed T2 BottomLine Kit, etc).

Any and all input greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Just get the stock one and do the mods later. And do you have to get one with automatic? 6MT is so much fun..
