Nardi is right the MX5 was hugely over priced in Oz compared to other offerings world wide. Comparing it to the 86 price wise would not be very accurate.

Apparently, Toyota does not believe the 86 would appeal to the younger crowd. So it is targeting a more upscale demographic group.

I hope they come to realisation that what they "expect" is wrong. If I were to earn that much right now (regardless of age and career) i'll be looking into the GT-R or something. i mean mainly the people that are interested in this car are for the "young" enthusiast (early 20s to mid 30s, who earn around 50 something to 60 or 80k) not mid aged enthusiast. I don't think the CEO of Toyota Australia is even listening to the their president of Toyota (Akio Toyada).His probably like "meh...its a sports car, lets make it pricey like a sports car."

Of course its NOT beyond the means of that young guy making $50K P.A. and living at home with his parents to buy the 86.

So whatever your circumstances are.. if you can afford it, buy it and don't worry about who its "target market" is.

If you can't afford it work harder lol

I am with JDM. Target market or no target market, if you want it and it is in your budget, go for it If it isn't in your budget but you want it, wait for a used one

most people buy cars that are worth more than the yearly income. finance is king.

if I was earning 150k a year I wouldn't be looking at a 86, id be looking at a GTR or c63.

but each to there own I guess.

probably not as much as yearly income but if i earn $150k per year, i'd look for cars at least half the salary.

Toyota only care about their profit/lose margin. More profit and less wastage.

Confident on pricing well i guess that depends on who you know. I was sure this 86 would be 35k-50k but now im confident it wont be.

Just because Toyota have not officially released any pricing info to press or dealers doesn't mean legitimate information cant be had, ask the right person the right questions and you get the right answers.

You are right about May thou, dealers launch meeting (or what ever its called) in May/June and id say from that all sorts of info will be official/true.

Saying that it will be 35-50k is pretty broad... It will definitely be in that bracket... I was more referring to the people being confident AND narrow. If you have real information absed on fact it isn't "a gut feeling".
Dimik - my point was nothing to do with the actual car.... that's a moot point... What I was saying is that I can't see the sense in buying a car that's over your yearly income. Yes, I know people do it, but it can be a good way to land in alot of financial trouble. Maybe I like saving money and having back up cash too much. but if I am buying a car over my yearly income, there isn't alot left over.
Nardi - I am with you dude. Half your yearly salaray, no worries. Even a bit more than half, no worries. I jsut couldn't spend more than what i earn in a year on something that depreciates alot. And the more expensive the car, the quicker it loses value too.

If you wanna talk about what car you'd buy on $150k salaray, I'd probably get a second hand, late model NSX Or a new IS350 fsport maybe?
C63 isn't a bad car though. It sounds sensational, and moves along fairly well too!

I'm 20 (turning 21 in May) and think the Rukus is a lol.

This is a bit off-topic but: I don't understand why so many people like the style of utes? I mean people who buy a ute SSV as their "sports car" or because they just like their looks, without ever (or only rarely) actually using the back tray.

It is fully understandable to buy a ute for practical reasons, but personally I'd much rather see a Camaro (or a new Monaro) sold in Australia than a Holden Ute.
