I'll be visiting the autoshow this week. Buddy of mine will be working the Scion booth which also which means sales reps around to ask further questions. I could say that I wouldn't mind a group buy. I wonder what thier finance rates are.

Man, I didn't think that there would be so many people putting down their deposit before the price was announced. I should have made this thread earlier.
@Pb_Foot Who did you put your deposit down with? We can probably switch you over @spikey_dogg Keep your deposit at Regency for now, and let's see how things turn out. If we do get a good deal, you can always jump boat to Richmond Auto mall. Since you just recently put your deposit down, your place in the line wouldn't be that far off @Shimmyshake You can be our spy on the inside xD Ask around and see which sells rep will be willing to give you to the best deal. Cause right now I think we have 7 people interested in buying, or put down deposits already. We can always take our deposit back and go to the rep that's giving us the best deal. I would rather loose my place in line and get the car later, than spending more money than I have to. |

^ Plus make sure everyone is financially sorted and serious. If it goes from 7 to 3 people right at the beginning because of credit issues, or people not being as interested as they say the sales reps won't be as flexible.
And don't let them **** around with fees and such. Or 'policy'. EVERYTHING is negotiable, and they also make some 'hidden' money on sales as well (in terms of overall performance, etc...). 7 sales to a single rep in one day is HUGE. Always remind the rep that you know how big of a deal this is to them. If anyone has info on how their commissions work that would be handy ahead of time too. Unfortunately I'm planning on a year and a half down the road for my purchase so I'm not able to join this buy...

Yeah, Dimman, it seems like you have a lot of experience with this stuff. Plus this makes it easier for you when you buy your car cause you can be like, "Remember that time when I brought in all those FR-S buyers?" when your asking for a discount

I think I'm around 5th place on the list right now. The deposit is refundable. I don't think most people have experience with group buy for a car, so this would be an interesting first experience for most of us.

What's going to make negotiating tough is that there are already orders for inventory that is not even here yet. That makes dealers happy.
Stuff that is on the lot for a while is the stuff that they will be easier to deal with. The new-ness and supply/demand issues at launch will all be working in the dealers' favour. My only real experience is coaching my friend when he bought a brand-new Civic about a decade ago. It took a freaking week of back and forth every day or two. Biggest part there was I had to convince him only that he wanted the car, not NEED. He ended up paying $500 under MSRP, got them to bring in the colour he wanted, waived destination charge, and financed it at 1% less than advertised. But this was only a Civic. And it took a week! And basically they still made all their money because he financed it. With the FR-S I can see the dealers being ****y. "If you don't buy today, at what I'm offering, there are 10 other people lined up right behind you." Next year will be a different story, though.
