Garage
My kraftwerks install review. The roller coaster I never want to ride again.

First starting out it should be known that I bought my kit from a friend who did not install the kit. Brand new in box.

Starting on Friday me and a friend tore into the install. The instructions are ok for the first few parts but need some polish. The first setback was the crank pulley bolt. I had installed the Perrin crank pulley a year or so ago and it refused to come off. Using the biggest breaker bar that could fit in the garage and not hit the ceiling it let go with a snap. I thought I broke the bolt. Luckily it was just the bolt had seized to the anodized aluminum of the Perrin pulley.

I examine the bolt, no issues, torque to factory spec which I found online as 95ftlbs. Tip Kraftwerks, seeing “Torque to factory spec” is infuriating. I understand professional installation is required but do us all a favor and put what the torque value is. Throw us a bone.

Everything is going to plan until mounting the plate to the engine. Missing the M10 25mm 1.25 bolt. Fuck. Not in any of the boxes. Dead in the water at 11pm on friday.

So I get up at 6am saturday and head to Home Depot. They have an M10 25mm bolt but it’s 1.50 thread pitch. I’m screwed. So I stand in the isle and manage to find a grade 8 bolt that is a little longer but will work.

We begin working on the car at 8 am with some help from friends. Everything goes smoothly until burping the oil for the supercharger.

The method of unplugging the injectors is terrible. We skipped it. Holding down the gas pedal 100% will turn the car over without fuel. Why not suggest that method?

I digress. We end up flooding the engine somehow. I think I know why…

I had my tune from delicious on friday. The only problem is that around 2pm I get a text from Visconti asking about my MAP sensor. Asking which one I had. Told him 4bar honda. He’s like wut? So I send him pics. He says that’s the 2 bar.

So when I bought the kit my friend upgraded to the 4 bar but when I got it from him only got the 2 bar. No worries. John sends me a tune, the car fires right up. It’s pissed because it was drowning in gas but it clears it fast. We spend the next 15 minutes adding and checking oil levels until it’s good. Used almost the whole bottle.

Visconti asks for idle and putz logs. We putz it around the neighborhood and send him logs. We put the front bumper on and it goes on without a single issue. I get a new tune from Visconti, asks for WOT logs. I take it to the highway on ramp and do 2 logs. Come back home and send logs and wait.

Take shower, go get food. Car is driving fine. Get call from Visconti, says everything looks really good and that the tune I’m on was crafted after he spent the previous week doing a dyne tune for the same kit. So I’m on my way home and hear a weird noise. Like odd belt noise.

Pull over, pop hood, kraftwerks belt is coming off main pulley .The pulley bolt is coming out. Panic sets in. Get a friend to pick me up, get all the tools i can carry and we undo all the bolts and check it. It’s fine, just came out. We get the belts off and this time torque to 125ftlbs. Start the car, no issues. Cogged belt is a little chewed up so now I need a new one but it’s not bad at all.

Let this be a lesson. I could have lost my car because of this. There needs to be some major bold or red text on the pulley part. Torque amounts must be in the instructions. Had that bolt come fully out my car would be dead.

I need a new cogged belt, will replace my stock belt at the same time, and new under ware.

@KraftWerks are updated install instructions out? Looks like I wasn't the only one frustrated with lack of torque specs. I'm also looking to see if bumper grill trimming instructions are out for the next time I go in to install my engine oil cooler.

The only other issue was the oil cooler mounting part. That is the stupidest mounting thing I've ever seen lol. I had to hammer it on and almost crushed my AC condenser doing so.

The oil reservoir location was a bit weird, but not sure if the oil cooler install was supposed to be all that difficult. The pinch mount adapters that come already attached to the oil cooler do require some loosening and then some wedging onto the AC condenser. I'm not so sure if it is the best location either since:

a) Seems like there's chance that with it being mounted on the bottom of the AC condenser it can drop off over time (only time will tell I guess).
b) It isn't getting much air on it (esp in traffic) since the intercooler gets all the fresh air.

I hypothesize that my Rotrex coolant gets too hot in stop-n-go traffic and somehow steams or comes out at the top of the Rotrex oil reservoir. I get some of this "leakage" from the top of the reservoir in stop-n-go traffic and also right after some spirited driving on the freeway stopping at an off-ramp.

Ah. The crank hub adapter completely replaces that wheel then?

I think the outlet of the C30 is a 2.5", and the outlet of the C38 is a 3".

yep, you're right. it looks like that molded pipe supposed to go right over the outlet of the supercharger and it's just small. I don't think there is supposed to be a coupler there, i think we need a whole new molded pipe.

I was there Friday in person and they told me the map is not included. Geez. I had to buy one. Right there. I thought it would come with one as well, I was pretty surprised they were saying that it didn't.
