I feel the same way. Everyone says a proper tune will make a boost "safe" but I don't buy it after reading about engine failures like this one (if that is what it turns out to be)

Mine blew at 37K. This makes me less inclined to think it was due to the year old front end repair. Especially since they gave me no trouble whatsoever about replacing the engine, even knowing about the previous work.

How long on that oil? Last time checked? Go through any overly big puddles lately? Check air filter lately? Notice any smoke from the exhaust after warm up? ANY sign of anything going bad?

Sorry about your car OP.

Still $14k of collision damage could have netted some impact on the engine that was not diagnosed during the original repair. This one I wouldn't lump with other failures on that reason alone.

The motor is fine. There are flukes in any mass produced object. People would be surprised at how many iPhones Apple "swaps" under warranty. Yet, the phones are held in the highest regard in terms of build quality.

That was one of many thoughts I had.

While you are right I guess my issue is if I were to boost my car and something did happened, it would hurt financially. This post just reinforces you gotta pay to play.

That is correct. It will hurt financially. If you can support your hobby without straining your wallet, then all power to you. While I am fortunate to be able to do so, I am sometimes attracted to the idea of a factory reinforced/high-power car and keeping the warranty. Yes the initial outlay is higher, but over time it amounts to less headaches and money spent. Problem is, modding is addictive regardless. Once you catch the bug, it's really hard to shake off.

Define "major." OP had $14K of cosmetic damage. Is that major if it's not mechanical?
