Well I hope they do something. The last thing I want is a one-off car where parts and labor are impossible to find but I am just afraid that there are too many ego's at Toyota to be bruised to put the engine that should have been in it from the get go (variant of the FA20DIT.)

Without DIT there really is no adding :some: power, the engine is a bit on the over-rated side of things already (How many dynos really show this thing has 200 hp corrected.) Its been pushed to its limits to get the most HP and least emissions. It already makes the knock detector sing more than any car I've ever seen in factory form.

I think we should just take a step back and enjoy it for what it is, a swan song for the last relatively straightforward FR car with a real manual tranny, and an LSD rear. It can be a canvas to build a super sports car or it can be a very enjoyable DD.

Unless they are extremely successful, joint ventures don't usually last that long.

My hope is Toyota gets wrapped up in BMW on one side and expensive KERS technology on the other and let the GT-86 platform slip into the hands of the right fore owner:Subaru. Then we might see some progress.

I agree I give them at least 14-15 years with the FR-S, using the past rwd coupes as a reference point.

You're saying it could take the place of the Miata as a retro car. Problem is Toyota isn't in the business of low volume low profit platforms, look at the MR-S, definitely a purer sports car than the FRS and it lasted 4 years.

The mr2 lasted basically 14 or 15 years

That makes no sense whatsoever. So an engine that revs high is a mystique sports car? Regardless of how the powerband performs at that point?

I'm really glad I'm not a person who is waiting to buy an 86 based on the assumption some super amazing, power increasing, killer update will happen. Here is what is gonna happen: finally after a few more years you can't take it anymore so you decide the latest model year's slightly updated headlights are what you have been waiting all this time for, so you buy the car and then BAM!!! next year the 2nd gen 86 comes out. It looks just like the concept, has a 350whp flat 6, and is still 25K. So you take your car, with its stupid looking "updated" headlights and drive it off a cliff screaming "GOD DAMN IT WHY ME!!!"

I think you're way off the mark with this one, given the different corporate priorities of the parties involved. But you're welcome to your opinion...

I agree. The whole 86 thing is from Toyota's past. Not to mention the car was designed by Toyota. If this was really a Subaru would it not be AWD? And besides, there is nothing keeping Subaru from doing whatever they want with the BRZ. They could slap a turbo on it and call it an STI, they don't need Toyota to give up on the 86 platform to do that. I don't really understand what all the fuss is about, there is nothing keeping anybody from adding more power themselves. I mean a factory installed turbo/super is going to add major cost on to the MSRP of the car, and will not even add very much power, at least not as much as an aftermarket kit. All you have to do is pony up some bucks, buy a FI kit, and get more power for less money than you would from a new model at the dealer. "Oh, but the warranty, the WARRANTY!" boo F'n hoo, if they made a FI version everyone would say it doesn't add quite enough and would want to up the boost, which would of course void the warranty.

Ouch!!! man that horse is a little high to get down from comfortably...

allow me to back this up with some facts

2014 base WRX = $25, 955 265hp
2014 STI WRX = $34,495 305hp

so basically for 9 grand you get 40 more horsepower, and thats crank hp not whp! You give me a base FR-S and 9 g's and I will build you something that will blow all "four" doors off that Subie ST whatever its called

Last edited by Larkin; 05-09-2014 at 06:40 PM. Reason: copy and pasted turbo instead of STI

ok I'm sorry, just one more post

http://www.roadandtrack.com/car-revi...aru-wrx-vs-sti

check that out!!! The 2015 WRX STi has a whole whopping 24 more wheel horsepower than the base model. Wow, now is that really worth almost 10 grand? Even with better brakes and an ugly spoiler?

So we've heard about the different bolts used in the suspension. Is there any other difference b/w the 2014 and 2015 models?

So far, I would only confirm two color changes. One, including the SWP to change to the Crystal White Pearl seen on the 2015 WRX.

Has anyone ordered their 2015 FRS? Or seen a order sheet? Looking over on the brz side seems they are getting two color changes, shark fin antenna, new trim, new key fob
