If they only made one transmission, a twin-clutch would be the best compromise between performance (manual) and convenience (auto).

I hope they will have some type of trim level or package that is manual only, I would rather not include 16 year old girls and retired secretaries as people who drive the same car as me.

I'm sorry, what sports car had a regular 6 speed and did crappy on the track? Most of regular 6 speed sports car (without close-ratio) performed well in most tracks. I don't see why it need to have close-ratio.

It's not the actual transmission I'm talking about, but how they're marketing it. Marketing types think 'close-ratio' equals sport. (Close-ratio term is pretty vague anyways, you could argue that all 6 speeds are 'close-ratio' when you compare them to 5 speeds or 4 speeds) But they chose to promote the car using the auto. Which means comfortable and convenient. Which is generally not equal to sport.

Good point... but if you look at MR-S, Miata, Altezza, & other modern 6sp tranny sports car been vaguely in that zone (expect for AP1, that think is pretty peeky around the edge).

I'm not sure what exactly you could call a "Close Ratio" gearbox, but I know my Matrix can get up to 70kph in first gear. Comparing that with my friends Si and my old 5 speed Kia which go up to around 50kph in first.

Now how much does that affect performance? the C60 transmission in the Matrix can run me head to head with 05 Si's no problem, and once I hit 3rd / 4th gear I start to pull, and I get a nice jump with my longer first gear too. of course I lose a little bit in second but 3rd pulls nicely.

Now without being overly technical, what could we call "standard" for a close ratio 6 speed gearbox? And how does that compare with say my C60 6-speed?

Just an option with 6spd would be cool but the object of any company is to make money and they will def not make as much if they only have a 6spd option. It is what it is i guess, just have fun with it make it your own and it wont matter what everyone else has

We need a 6-speed manual for those of us who know what we're doin, and a four/five speed auto for all the pansy-posers who just want to look cool.

Doesn't do much for the weight though.
