My overflow is indeed low.

I can smell it strongly as the rad fans are spinning up. The turbo is oil cooled, so as far as modification to the cooling system, only a relocation bracket for the overflow tank.

Poking my head around above ground, the only strangeness I saw was a few droplets on the drivers side lower rad support. When the car cools down, i will verify its origin.

How are your cooling fans mounted? Any chance one of the zip ties has worn through the radiator core and damaged it?

Thats pretty much exactly what I was thinking! The ones towards the turbo are fine, I will have to take the bumper cover off and inspect the other mounts.

mounted with the slim fan kit that came with.

Yeah I damaged my OEM radiator when I removed those to install my Full Blown radiator. It doesn't take much strain or a slightly wrongly placed zip tie to wear through. With that being said I have had a slim fan mounted with those on my racecar for 5 years now with no issues.

Truth, all my previous cars having slim fans posed no issues.

Seems replacing this rad is unavoidable, be it overheating issues, or frailty. I will know for sure tomorrow morning. Preparing the car for a 5500km drive across country, a fine time to have coolant issues.

I wouldn't even justify calling it a radiator. It is really an A/C condensor that they decided to use as a radiator. It is the thinest frailest radiator I have ever seen.

Check your coolant line going to the turbo. I just experienced a leak there this past weekend. About 3 or 4 pages back i posted pictures. Tube was brittle where it met the AN fitting. Just a suggestion. It started as a slow undetectable leak and kept getting worse.

I wanted to make more power on CA91 fuel. I have E85 nearby but anytime I take a trip or any track I'd frequent is only going to have 91 fuel. @FullBlown tuned the car to 353whp on 91, and after seeing the many posts about the GTX3076R (my housing is .63) and similar sized turbos making excellent numbers, I decided to make the switch.

That said, his motor is actually slightly lower compression than yours at 9:1 vs 9.5:1. Not sure if that is really such a huge factor with such a minute change. Where they both may be 91 octane, CA 91 performs much closer to an 89 from every other state here in the US. Not only that, your turbo is actually the larger of the two if we're looking at wheel size here. Your PTE5858 uses a 58mm inducer vs his 51, and 58mm turbine wheel vs his 54. I don't know where this larger turbo statement came from. Moral of the story here is there are far too many fine details to consider and no reason at all to point fingers. If pmccut wants to make more power now he is more than welcome to come back and we'll swap in the larger injectors. When Bill says the larger injectors sacrifice a bit of drivability, that's the perfectionist side of him talking. You or I would likely not notice a hit in that area at all, and instead be enjoying all the extra power to be gained.

Sincerely,

Zach

When we had the same size turbo, on the same fuel, at the same boost levels, same tuner, same dyno, with slightly different compression, we made about the same power.

Where are you seeing 51 for the inducer wheel? The GTX3076R shows 58 as well. Turbine wheel is 60mm. The turbo sizes are basically the same from what I can tell, so we should have very similar results. I think I'm just limited by the port injectors, but Bill hasn't specifically said that.

His turbo isn't water cooled, just oil cooled.

I was looking at your tag for the gt28, didn't realize you had upgraded to the gtx3076r. Essentially that's exactly what's happening with the port injectors. That said I wasn't there and don't know the full extent of your build, and I'll talk to Bill later about it. Keep in mind a bigger turbo at the same boost is going to push much more air and if the injectors can't flow the fuel to match, you won't make as much power. Plain and simple. We may have misinterpreted your needs as far as the balance between drivability and outright power, and do invite you to pm us so we can work it out and get you to a point where you are more than happy with your tune and the power.

Sincerely,

Zach

IMHO there should be no balance between drivability and outright power. Nothing about aftermarket injectors necessitates subpar drivability. Not trying to be an ass or anything, but people shouldn't take that impression away from this thread. Calibrated properly, you absolutely can achieve better-than-stock drivability with anything up to 1000cc injectors (never tried larger). @Sportsguy83 how's your drivability on 1000s?
