Fresh in the community & First day of owning the BRZ:)

Disclaimer: Everything I share below is true and out of honesty, I am open to all comments, opinions and suggestions.

I had insomnia last night, not because I was looking forward to buy the BRZ but because I have driven one for the first time. For two years, I have searched for the perfect car, many sports sedan/coupes have already been on my menu list: Lexus IS, BMW E92 3 series, Z4, Nissan Z....etc. Yet I felt I was just going for the name/prestige and they just did not fire me up properly...I almost put my bet on the Lexus but my parents asked me to wait and learn how to drive properly first. So I waited and waited and waited until I realized that a luxury four door sedan was not what I wanted. As a long adherent of the Japanese engineering philosophy, I wanted something pure and agile just like the legendary Japanese zero fighter.

In a drive around HWY 9, I witnessed the agileness and the stature of the BRZ. It just fit perfectly in my formula. Then it was like paper catching on fire, I just could not stop researching about this car and looking at threads on this forum. Maybe it was because of my youth but holly cow, I found it! This is the perfect car I wanted and I did not even hesitate. Months have passed and I finally gathered up enough money to purchase the car. No test drive no nothing, I just contacted the dealerships in the bay area and after some time, I got the color I wanted. PS: Livermore Subaru has provided me great services and very reasonable price, the dealer was nice and eager to assist me in the buying process.

Coming from a 2001 Honda CRV, I knew anything would feel fast and good to drive. I have driven a couple of sport cars but the good feeling of driving the BRZ did not end when I got out of the car. I could not believe this, my palmed were sweating and my heart was racing so fast even when I was on the bed. All my senses just longed to go down the stairs and take my car for another good midnight drive. I could not believe this, my body was telling me to drive for no reason? Up to this point, some of you may think that I do not know how to drive or I am just a stubborn snob. Maybe I am, or even both, I just can't say for myself but here, I just want to share the amazing feeling I had for last night. Maybe it was just the joy, the excitement or the youth; maybe it will go away at some point but this feeling was good and memorable even for once.

So where do I go from here? I plan to own this car for as long as I could for which it marks the end of my search and the start of my journey. The car completely took away my saving for the last 5-6 years but before long, I will put on some basic cosmetic mods and then some performance kits, it all depends. Many say young people should not own nice cars because they do not know how to appreciate, I feel the complete opposite; it is exactly because of my youth that I'd grow a strong passion for the few things I love in life. I am very lucky to have the chance to own a BRZ and it is the BRZ that I will dedicate my time and attention to.

Thank you very much for reading!

You look and sound excited to have your car. And the one word that unfortunately seems like a lot of younger drivers lack - appreciative.

This forum is a gift and a curse - ask the right questions and people will be glad to help you, there's tons of knowledge here. Ask about the wrong things and you will get vitriol and lots of criticism. Welcome and congrats on your purchase.

Its not just the youth. Its whatever magic they baked into this car. Every time I open the garage I smile. Sack of trash, armful of laundry, to grab a scoop of dog food. Boom there's my car. Instant smile. I found 3 errands today to make three separate drives on my day off. Did I get anything on my weekend honeydo list done? Nope! But I got some wheel time!

Enjoy it man!

I'm 6 months in and still get the urge for midnight drives. as you get better driving it the more it reveals is excellence to you. The excitement stays because it gets better and better to me anyways. I think Canyon roads add a lot too

Those people are dumb. Age has nothing to do with being able to appreciate cars: driving ability and enthusiasm for driving do. If you love driving and want to get better at it, you'll appreciate your car regardless of what it is. If you don't love driving, you can potter around in your 458 without appreciating it. It sounds to me like you'll appreciate your car

Congratulations, I have the same car in same color(best color) I wish I can still get that excited for a car. My cars have an average shelf life of 2 years, never felt nostalgic for a vehicle, maybe except for my first motorcycle.
