Shiv, I appreciate your input. All I, and some others, are looking for is some real truth in the answer to this question. We are looking for assurances that we run a solid chance of not forfeiting our warranty it something goes wrong d/t your tune. In the end its our wallets that suffer should something go wrong as a result of your very new piece of technology. Its a reasonable question to ask. I am not looking to put fear into other consumers minds rather, I am simply looking for the truth. I am looking for exact measures as to how it can be detected. When you post a comment that reads "it is very unlikely that it can be detected at the dealership level" as you have done for posts in the past you dont provide me with the answer I am looking for. Perhaps if you expanded a bit more on this area in your website it would put more potential consumers minds at ease, including mine.

Having said that, I am convinced I will be alright with this awesome tune. I think its in my best interest to really build a strong relationship with my dealer and hope for the best with this or other tunes.

thanks

You're never going to get a real answer because no one really knows with 100% certainty that it cannot be detected. In the end, you're dealing with software and even when you think that you've created something that you believe is foolproof, someone will come along with a different vector of thinking and exploit a vulnerability. That's why what you're asking for will never be possible, i.e. 100% guarantee that something cannot be detected. If software could be 100%, then we'd all still be running Day 0 OS's with no patches.

In the end, you are right, it's your wallet that has to pay if something goes wrong. So you need to do the risk-reward evaluation yourself and decide what you want to do. Asking for a statement on his website to state that a dealership won't be able to detect any changes will just result in some lawyer pushing manufacturers to come up with ways to prevent any tampering with the ECU at all or just result in a "For Offroad Use only" statement on all tuning solutions.

While I understand your concerns, they aren't realistic. It's like having your cake and eating it too, i.e. you want the tune, but don't want the risk associated with it.

What I was getting at is: What results do you get if you scan the entire memory space to see if you get a "read response" or a read failure for every single memory address? How many bits is this ECU?

If there is any "hidden" non-volatile memory registers hiding in the ECU, they should be relatively easy to find. In modern CPUs there can be fancy things like swap space to a harddrive (still memory mapped) that require some fancy footwork, but these MCUs should not be that advanced.

Modding always has to be looked at as pay to play. If you aren't ok with risk, don't mod.

Sometimes you may slip past the piper, sometimes you won't.

But you always need to go into it with the mindset of expecting to pay if and when shit goes wrong.

He means the engine hardware itself is "bulletproof", as in way overbuilt for a normally aspirated engine.

Maybe they wont dig further for evidence of a tune if they can't find much when I reflash the ROM.
The only 100% way to be sure is stay stock to 60k/5 years.

I think they were suggesting it was an FA20Club or maybe Visconti tune (both EcuTek), not and OFT tune.

EcuTek leaves a small footprint even after flashing back to stock, so it is slightly easier to detect, but no dealership has the hardware (or employees with the background) to dig into it like that.

The ECU would have to be shipped off for further investigation, and for that to happen the dealership would have to suspect something.
